How long is the hospital stay, post-op recovery and lifting max?

Recommended Posts

:tongue:Please let me know of the length of your hospital stay?

How long in bed before going back to an office job?

Is there any lifting restrictions? I take care of my granddaughter twice a week, Lily weighs 12 lbs now?

Thank you:smile2:

My surgeon actually keeps us overnight, but from what I have seen on here, he is one of the few that does.

Everyone is different, but I would allow at least a week of recovery time before going back to work. As for the lifting, it has been quite a long time now, but if I remember correctly, I was limited to five pounds for a month until my port was healed well.

I stayed for about 8 hours post-op. It depended on health issues and I had very few. Those with diabetes, heart issues etc. had to stay overnight.

I only took pain meds for days 1 and 2. Could have gone back to an office job at 1 week.

I was told to lift no more than 10 pounds for the first two months but 'forgot' a few times, lifted my 30 pound grandson once and felt it the next day in my port area but had no long-lasting repurcussions.

Thanks to all of you for your information on the concerns I have to deal with soon. I am the primary babysitter of Lily and will have to be relived of my duties for a couple months. She will be at least 15 to 20 lbs. by time of my surgery.

I have to do this 1st for myself but will hate to not be able to be with her because of the lifting issue.

Thanks all again

My doctor wanted me to avoid lifting more than 5 pounds immediately after surgery. At a post-op follow up three weeks later he said I could increase that to 15 pounds. I'd talk to your doctor about your situation and find out his/her opinion.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
