Hi --

I'm in suburban Atlanta and was banded a week ago. So far, so good...although I have really no restriction and can push the envelope on the mushy food front.

You're in Chatsworth -- are you going/did you go to Dalton? Hear great things about them.

Good luck,

Elizabeth

I was banded in Mexico by Dr. Rodriguez on April 1, 2003. I am coming to Nashville on the 11th. Since I am self pay the fills here in Dalton are around $800 so I found a Dr. Morton in Nashville for fills. This will be my first time there. His nurse Shawna does them in the office for $150!!! This will be my second fill though. I have an 11cm band and have 3cc in it now. I am hoping to get another 3-4cc this time. I have no restriction now and am struggling to keep the weight off. I have lost 56lbs so far and don't want any of it to come back.

Keep in touch. My e-mail at home is the_mills@charter.net

Always,

Sandy

Elizabeth,

Great to hear from you. I was not banded in Dalton and although I have heard great things I have only seen them once and was only with the doctor about five minutes. The cost of the fill I received was outrageous (around $800). I hope things are going well for you and I too pushed the boundaries while in the mushy phase. Thankfully it doesn't last too long and you will eat solids and not much of them I might add. I was very restricted for about four weeks after I started solids before I begin to be able to eat more. I have no restriction now and it is scary. Keep in touch. My home email is the_mills@charter.net

Good luck,

Sandy

I am from south of Atlanta. I was banded in December 2002. I would love to talk to some other Georgia Girls and get a support system going.

Hey ya'll I was banded 8/12/03 in Dalton and they better not be no 800.00 fillings cause I'm due 10/02..Guess I'll be in the market for Doc.

They were terrific though I mean I couldn't imagine a better experience. I am at 258 and started at 276. Loss is at a snails pace and I get hungry. I could eat a lot too but it is easy not to now and I stay full a lot longer.

I got some real movie popcorn tonight!!Small, Seen Matchstickmen. Great movie.

I live in Dalton but grew up in Chatsworth/Murray Co.

My daughter turns 16 tommorrow!! I'm feeling an old 34 but am just proud as I could be of her. I been truely blessed....

Car and cell phone things get more expensive as the years go by!!!!!!

Thanks to all and feel free to email any questions! This place was a lifesaver for me!!!!Hey Sandy!! :)

Hey Bobby,

Yes, I just had a fill on the 17th and it was $620 at the office and whatever the radiologist charges. But since you had your surgery at Hamilton then it shouldn't be that much. Does your insurance pay? I cash pay for mine. Congrats on your daughter's birthday. I have a few more years before I get there. I have custody of my 14 yr old niece, my son will be 12 next month, and then I have a daughter that turned 5 in June.

Hey Ga. Gang --

Just wanted to check in...I'm coming up on one month post-op. As of last weigh in (weekly), I was down about 14 lbs. I've had no restriction, especially this past week, so I'll just be happy with no change. I don't eat as much as I did pre-op, but my food selections could stand improvement. I get some exercise in every other day, so I feel good about that.

Scheduled for a fill 10/6, my 41st birthday. At first, I thought I might want to do it another day -- celebratory lunch, celebratory dinner -- but then, decided this would be the best gift I could give myself (or that anyone else could give, for that matter!) Bring it on!!

They told me to bring a check for $200 -- that was a surprise! The doctor files with insurance, but the radiology group wants to get paid and have me file the claim.

Trying to stay positive that this was the right thing for me and the true benefits of the band will be more evident post-fill.

Keep on keeping on, everyone!

Elizabeth, Alpharetta

i WANTED TO FOLLOW UP ON THIS THREAD TOO. mY FILL WAS DONE LAST THURSDAY. i HAVE LOST 17 LBS SINCE OP. i WAS HOWEVER 276 JUST A WEEK BEFORE SURGERY SO I CLAIM 22LBS.

I HAD 2CC IN A 4 CC BAND AND STILL DON'T HAVE THE SPOT. i WILL HAVE TO GO BACK. DIDN'T LIKE THE FILL EITHER BUT IT DIDN'T COST ME A PENNY AT HAMILTON DIAGNOSTICS. FROM EVERYTHING I HAVE HEARD HERE I SEE PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE. MY LOSS ISN'T COMING BACK THIS TIME AND I AM NOT GOING TO WORRY ABOUT GETTING THE SWEET SPOT. IT WILL COME. MY DIET AND EXERCISE IS THERE AND LIFESTYLE CHANGE HAS BEGUN AS FAR AS EATING.

GA. FOLKS GET TO HAMILTON WEIGHT LOSS CENTER AND DALTON SURGICAL GROUP. THESE FOLKS ARE TOP NOTCH!

I CAN'T WAIT TO GET DOWN AROUND 230 SO I CAN START TO JOG AGAIN, I ENJOYED IT BRFORE. I AM SCARED TO AT THIS WEIGHT FOR MY KNEES AND JOINT STRESS.

WHEN I SAID MY RESTRICTION WASN'T RIGHT I STILL FEEL THE DIFFERENCE. I DON'T GET HUNGRY AS FAST NOW.

I'M WORKING ON MY WEB SITE AND WHEN FINISH I WILL UNVEIL MY PROGRESS HERE LIKE SO MANY HAVE.

FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ANY QUESTIONS!!!:o

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
