Banded yesterday in NYC

Recommended Posts

Hi. I just got banded yesterday by Dr. Bessler at Columbia Hospital in NYC. Procedure went well - I also had a hiatal hernia fixed. The pain is minimal -actually just the bloating (gas from the procedure) that is bothersome at this point. Feels good to move around as opposed to lying down. I start mushies today - do not have to do a "liquid only" phase. I'll keep you posted on how the eating goes. Its funny, I have not had anything to eat in over 36 hours but at this point have no hunger or desire to eat. I've line up my high Protein shake (smartforme - 35g protein), a bottle of gerber 2nd stage turkey and a light yogurt. I know I have to eat them today, just not that interested.

Best wishes to all

Starting BMI: 40.4

Goal BMI: 24.9

Hi Mike,

I wish you all the best and welcome to bandland and for making a decision that will help you.

I'm also in New York (Queens), and had my surgery done on January 23, 2008 at South Nassau Communities Hospital.

beebee - My doctor does not require Clear Liquids - in fact did not require them before the surgery either. I do strictly follow all directions. It is mushies day after surgery. I had a shake yesterday (took all day to consume) and half a little bottle of baby food. tasted some yogurt. Was very satisfied.

Kevin & Alfie - thanks and glad to see some NYC support. kevin - how long after surgery until you were completely pain free ? I still am a bit sore and cant sleep on my side yet.

Hi Mike, I had my surgery at Roosevelt hospital in N.Y.C on jan.24th, I lost 38 pounds already,I just started soft foods on tuesday, I was pain-free within a week after surgery, had little twinges now and then, but no pain, I'm a stomach sleeper and it was very hard sleeping on my back, after a week, I was on my stomach again.

Mike~ welcome to the boards and congrats on getting "banded". That's great you don't feel any hunger. That's one of my biggest fears of getting my band. I LOVE  food and what happens if I come home from surgery and just can't help it and scarf down a hot pocket or someting, lol. No but really, I'm kind of feeling sad about having that freedom taken from me. Anyways, congrats again and look forward to hearing your progress.

Oh, one more thing. Do you drink Water? If you do then how much and how do you do it and if you don't how do you not dehydrate? Stupid question but curious. Thanks

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
