Hey guys I was banded on 2/7/08 I had to do the 2 week pre-op diet liquids only. well I did the Optifast shakes the first 2days then I had to stop!.. I was throwing up so bad that I had to call my surgeon who said stop drinking them and go to full liquids. So I did.. I dropped about 4lbs . I don't think I could have done the whole 2 weeks on just the shakes... Thank god my dr was ok with me going on just liquids.

This is day 4 of my Protein shake/liquid diet, I cry every night about 8pm, when I have the I WILL EAT something battle, thankfully I have won, after arguing with myself for 30 minutes! I have lost 14 lbs in the last 4 days, you think that would be a motivator but it isn't I want to eat, I have chewed LOADS of gum, but I want a salad, steamed vegies, SOMETHING!!

My surgery is the 25th of feb, God give me the strentgh to make it through another meal....Amen!

Good luck fellow bandsters to be :girl_hug::)

Hello Everyone!

Today is day one of my liquid diet with Optifast and I'm so excited about the surgery which is scheduled for 2/26. Although Ive been satisfied drinking the Optifast, Ive been enticed by the smell and preparation of food that i've been preparing for my Husband and children. Ive been encouraging myself not to give in. Its difficult, but Im trying to train my mind into thinking, "I don't need it!" or "You can do this!". Ive been thinking of all of the food that I have easy access to. Praying I can make it for another 13 days of just a liquid diet (11 days optifast/ last 2 days of clear liquids). Has anyone been where I am?

I am also scheduled for the 26th. I am on Medifast. I know what you mean. It is hard when you smell real food cooking. I am not prepairing food right now. My husband is making his own dinner. I am not sure I could stand the temptation.

Hang in there though!!!! *o/* WE CAN DO IT!!!!!

I am on day 8 of Optifast and it's all downhill from here. This past weekend I thought I was in big trouble - I was so tired, so weak and felt ill with headaches. I just wanted to vomit every time I made up a shake, or a destert. I tried to eat a bar on Saturday but had real trouble getting it near my lips. The high levels of soy or Protein in them was getting to me!

The key is to not give up. Every day is another one to tick off and if you survive this day you can tomorrow too. I do believe it gets easier, as yesterday and today I have had great days. I just hope tomorrow and thursday are just as good also. I still feel hungry all the time, but I am trying not to focus on that.

I have dropped 5kg (for our American friends - that's 11lbs) in 8 days and am stoked. If I can drop another kilogram before Friday I will feel even better. These are kilos I will never see again....that's gotta be a good thing.

Wow Kylie that great, just two days to go. You made it. You must feel very proud of yourself. I wish you the best for your surgery. I will say a prayer for you. I still have a week to go, the 26th. I saw the doctor today and I am down 10.8 lbs. Also picked up another two weeks of Optifast. The doctor said to stay on the Optifast for the first week following surgery then I can introduce other liquids.

Enchanted Ruby how are you feeling? Did getting on the clear liquids help with the throwing up? This Optifast is not something I would want to be on for longer that I have to be for pre-surgery. It's working, but I am thinking ahead to when I can again have at least clear liquids like broth and maybe some sugar free Jello. I hope you are ok.

i am scheduled for banding 3/5/08. i have been on the old liquids now for 2 days and can actually say i am doing okay for the short term, however, the 2d day after surgery my doc says i can go to anything that will pour from a spoon so creativity is the key. if it can get into a blender it is gonna go. i don't mind the Protein Drinks, but man i need something with some real food flavor. so here's to you all, we can muscle thru this, we never have to do it again!!! Woo Hoo! g2s

Well, I am taking it day by day, hour by hour. I can honestly say yesterday was a NO CHEATING DAY. I made it thru. Today, has started well so far. My problem is at night after I get home from work. I have to make dinner for the family and I'm ok during that, I drink alot of Water or suck on some sugarless candy. But when 7pm-8pm hits, it's like the for food FLOODGATES OPEN......it so hard.

I did buy the sugarless coffee Syrup, vanilla flavor, don't really taste the difference, but I use it and close my eyes when I drink the shake. I try to drink it without breathing and fast. If I smell it, it makes me want to puke.

But I know this is temporary. That is what I keep telling myself and I weighed myself this morning and I have lost 5lbs. Can you believe it.....

This motivates me and listening to ya'll keeps me going.

C'mon Future Bandee's TOGETHER WE UNITE. WE WILL DRINK OUR Optifast, SUCK ON SUGARLESS CANDY, HAVE A SUGARLESS Jello, DRINK Water AND LOVE IT. THIS IS FOR OUR FUTURE HEALTH!!!!!

My date is Feb 27th so I am down to days also. I had my gallbladder out last week, so I am on day 8 of clear liquids and it is the hardest thing I have ever done! I may never be able to eat Jello and broth again once this is done LOL Hang in there and we will look back later and this will have meant nothing really...thats what I hear anyways :)

Karina,

Are you using something to "whip" the shake? If I use the vanilla and whip it, then it is much better. Lighter to drink.

I'm down to my last 4 days. Put a couple of bites of a few things in a my mouth over the 2 weeks but did pretty good overall.

Just have 2 more weeks of Optifast after the surgery... YIKES!

I have been there ,just had the surgery tuesday. What I did was mix the Optifast with coffee maple flavor, ice cubes and blend it tasted like a ice mocha. With vanilla i mixed with flavored water, or herbal tea exspecially chai,or crystal light I like it with more liquid than it says so its not so thick.I went down the baking and spices in the store and just added things like coconut flavor, peppermint, cinnamin the list goes on.When it was time to feed the family I fed them then got my drink ready while they where eating and had my extra vegtables with them also and by the time I got there they where almost done I was hungry and had my food with them at he end of their meal.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
