Thinking about an East Coast Bash

Recommended Posts

Ok gang, we gotta take a vote or narrow down where we're gonna meet. If anyone has connections in Manhatten for good rates, that would be my selection. For those in NJ, how far would that be out of the way for you all? How about Atlantic City, would that be too expensive too?

As I said before, I don't travel often, but when I do, I prefer to stay in a place that's not only nice, (not extravagant), but convenient. I don't want to spend my time riding too and from places, since time will be of the essence, not to mention I don't plan on renting a car and driving in NY.

Maybe if we had a head count we could use that to get better rates at a nice hotel in the city, whatta ya think?

A better count would be if you're planning on coming and need a hotel room. Not all of us who will be popping in will want to take a room overnight.

Bright can get a great rate on rooms at the Madison Hotel, which really is convenient to the train into the city besides being a gorgeous place in its own right. No one should think about renting a car! The rate she can get is about $140 per room, which is only $70 if someone is sharing. That'd be very hard to beat in the city for a hotel of decent quality, particularly on a fall weekend.

Alexander,

I just had my band surgery 2 weeks ago. I would love to participate in the banster's bash weekend. I am new to this web site, and am glad there is support out there, especially from people who live so close to me ( Butler).

Hi Mary,

Congratulations on your banding and welcome to LBT!! Care to tell us a little about yourself? We're practically neighbors--I'm in Morris County north of 80. Who was your surgeon? Are you healing up nicely, I hope?

Hope to see more of you on the boards! ;)

Gina, I too am from the meadowlands area. My cousin was done by Dr. Ballintine.

Alex, I would some information about an east coast bash.. I would love it more if it was in NJ. I travel to NYC everyday to work and would just hate the thought about comming in on a weekend. Although I just looked at the callender and the 23rd is a Friday I can just stay. Let me know details.

Thanks

Laura

Hello Laura,

I am from Carlstadt so we really are neighbors. My husband is from Lyndhurst; he lived there most of his life.

I do not get to visit this site as often as I would like but it helped me a lot. All the members really help with their experiences and knowledge. I am coming up on my one-year anniversary in six weeks (June 17th). I am really glad I made the decision to get banned instead of the bypass.

I thought I would be able to attend the East Coast bash but it turns out that I have to travel to Dallas for work. Good luck to you.

OK we need to get this thing structured.

Dates are Sept 23, 24, 25 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)

Some people will be arriving Friday the 23rd and some will have arrived on Thursday the 22nd (that would be me).

We need to decide where to meet up on Friday for dinner. Those that live in the area please pick some place easy to get to and moderately priced for around $15 to $25 per person and is band friendly.

Friday 23rd: 6pm, 7pm, or 8pm Dinner

Saturday 24th: 7am Walk from Obesity located in Manhattan, NY -- Some are participating (ME). That will end around 11am so the rest of the day is free for sightseeing or meeting up at someones house locally. Or whatever we decide (suggestions please).

Sunday 25th: Some will fly home and others will fly home the next day. (ME). LOL!!!!

OK That is my suggested itinerary. We need some of the local bandsters to come up with a place to meet on Friday and some place to meet on Saturday after the walk. I am going to stay in NYC somewhere haven't decided yet. I can get a taxi wherever you wanna meet up. I just need to know details.

Speak people!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had my surgery on April 21st, and I've already lost 21 lbs! I had it at Hackensack Hospital, and my surgeon was Dr. Garth Ballantyne. I was in quite a bit of pain, and had to stay an extra day due to the fact tha I was extremely nausious, and didn't have anything to drink until the next day. As the days went by, the pain became less and less, and now I don't have any! I'm still on liquids, and will start pureed this Friday (YUM). At times it becomes difficult to deal with, but I am determined to make this work. I feel that the surgery is only 50% of the weight loss process. You really have to be mentally ready to do this. Good luck to everyone!

PS I grew up in Lyndhurst too, and am living in Butler now.

Although we LOVE to hear about everyone's progress please start a new thread so we don't hijack this one. I have been guilty of that in the past.

OK now about that East Coast Bash. LOL!!!

OK guys I just bought my plane ticket for New York. I arrive at JFK on Sept 22nd Thursday in the afternoon.

Friday, the 23rd, I am willing to hook up with whoever wants anytime that day. Taxi's r us. dinner is a must for all bandsters in the area. We should decide where though and soon. Just in case we need to make reservations.

Saturday, the 24th, will be the walk in the morning then free most likely at noon. If no one volunteers to open their house to the bandsters then I am gonna do a tour of the art museums and possibly catch a play that night. Any takers? I know "Hairspray" is in town. I saw it out here in LA and I LOVED it.

Sunday, the 25th, is a rest day for me. I might go and do a walk around town but then again I might just chill at the hotel.

Monday, the 26th, I am flying home.

Hi all,

I live in Jersey City off the waterfront so i'm about 10 mins away from Manhattan. Please keep the thread up as I'd love to meet some of you. Also if any one talks to Vera ask her if she is going to try to make it.

Hey Penni,

I'd love to meet you for dinner on Friday. I'll be staying with my aunt in the city Friday night. I'm glad you are walking on Saturday. I am so excited for the walk and now I have someone to walk with me! I'd love to see The Producers. Pehaps a matinee. Also, my aunt has a small apartment in the City, but a great outdoor patio. We could hang out on the patio and order in dinner.< /p>

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
