Hi All,

Well I am back to work today and feeling fine. It has been a full two weeks for me since surgery and I am feeling well. It's taking me awhile to get the hang of how much food to eat....my Dr. gave me the go ahead to move onto soft foods so I have been trying different things. Do you all know if we are supposed to stick to 1/2 cup of food at every meal? It's unclear to me...BTW, I have lost 14 pounds since surgery on 3/3!!!! So excited!

Thanks,

Rukshanna

So good to hear you are doing well and congratulations on moving on to soft foods! Color me jealous!

From what my post-surgery paperwork states, my meals should be no more than 4-6 ounces. I think it's best for you to just take it slow, especially as you introduce new foods. Listen to your body so you'll know when the full sensations is kicking in.

And congratulations on the weight loss! That is fantastic! I've lost 12 since our surgery date, so I'm right behind you.

And please think of me as you munch on yummy soft foods. Since we're two weeks post-op, I get to introduce...crackers to my Soup. Hooray? I mean, HOORAY! :(

Thanks for the info Andi! Congrats on the weight loss!!! Since being on liquids for so long, I have a new appreciation for food...even a cracker here and there! It's still kind of a struggle for me to get in all of my Water in between meals....

It's so funny how we all have different meal plans...I guess it depends on the Doctor.

Hello all;

I'm checking in. Doing very well and I got to eat real food yesterday! I had a one egg omelet with 2 TBS of black Beans, picante sauce and low fat sour cream. Yum!

I walked 45 mintes on Sunday and my incisions are hurting today. They haven't hurt for a few days so I laid low today. Watched reruns all day and one bad movie.

I am keeping track of my calories and Protein and am doing well -- 65 gr of Protein and about 800-900 calories.

Weight loss has slowed to about a 1/3 lb per day but I am thrilled with that. I don't get hungry but I do get empty if that makes sense. My stomach growls and I guess I'm hungry but I have control over it unlike before. I guess the band is working. Or I'm working the band- one or the other. Both good!

Glad everyone is doing well. I told some friends and they were totally supportive.

I have an appointment with my doctor on WEdnesday and my first fill in 2 weeks- can't wait.

Best and love to all on your journey

Sadie

HI everyone, glad to hear all the 3/3 er's are doing well. I'm good. Feel a lot better that I can have mushie type food. I look forward to my 1st fill now though. I know what you mean about feeling "empty". I go back to work Monday 3/24 and I'm so glad. I have bad case of cabin fever. But I am nervous to go back and thinking I am ok lift something heavy up and do some damage. I will def. listen to my body! I lost 18 pounds since surgery so I'm excited for that. All my steri-strips came off finally, Thank God! I can really feel my port under my biggest incision on my left side now, kinda weird but dosen't hurt just still tender.

Take care....

Hi all,

I have to say I feel great! I had my surgery on the 3rd and was back to work the next Monday. I was a little worried because I had so much nausea through Saturday before going back to work, but it went fine. I feel better each day. I have to be on pureed foods for another couple of weeks...but I'm not minding it. I have been reading the recipes that have been posted and trying some new things. I don't see my surgeon until the middle of April...so I am just following the guidelines they sent home with me.

I'm glad to hear everyone else is doing great, too.

Take care...

hi everyone... glad to hear everyone's two week anniversary was going well. as for me, i'm near normal again. am back to work and played a little tennis (doubles) on sunday and monday. was really good to hit a ball! even managed to work out some with elastic therabands. the fitness consultant at my doc's office recc'd them as a good way to get some strength training during the post-op period when we're not really supposed to lift more than 20-25 pounds.

biggest problem thus far is the drudgery of mushie foods. i don't mean to bitch and moan, i really miss chewing. that and the fact that my hunger is back. i guess i need to get creative with mushie-stage recipes and get a better sense of whether my hunger is in my head or if it's in my newly banded tummy.

anyone got great recipes?

One of my favorites...I got it from another post on this site is...

Lasagna

Layer each of the following so you have about 1/2 cup total:

low fat/fat free cottage cheese

low sugar/sugar free spaghetti sauce

low fat mozerrella cheese

Pop in microwave and cook until melted.

Almost like Thanksgiving dinner:wink2:

chicken and potatoes

Grind up some chicken

Mix chicken with mashed potatoes.

MMM....

A little treat...

Let diet root beer go flat... to get rid of the carbination.

Make a root beer float with sugar free/fat free ice cream.

Did your doctor give you some variations for making your Protein shakes? I have quite a few variations that are yummy. Let me know if you would like them.

Hope these were some new ideas to add to your collection.

thanks darla... i will definitely try those. would also love to know how you jazz up routine Protein shakes. i've added some berries to mine, but i'm getting bored of those too.

sorry to keep complaining, just one of those days. a little boredom is a small price to pay for a healthier future.

thanks again

Hello everyone,

glad to hear everyone is doing well. I am good, although I still have this pain that comes and goes under my left rib cage. I am on soft foods now. I am so suprised how different Dr.s are giving different advice. Some of you are walking a ton and playing tennis!!! My Dr. says only to walk a maximum of 20 min a day. Next week I will be cleared to do any type of excercise that I want. Wahoo I am ready to get the rest of this weight off!! I have to be in a wedding in Sept, so I am going to work my bootie off!!

I am eating on three meals a day and now I am not drinking with meals, which is a little tough. I am going to start keeping a food journal because now that I am moving onto soft foods I am scared I might start eating too many calories. Anyone else keeping a food journal??

Good Luck:thumbup:

Good Luck:thumbup:

Yep! Been keeping it since the first day. It helps me track my Protein intake as well as gauge my intake for the day. It's a great tool for bandsters, that's for sure.

Darla~ Thank you so much for taking the time to give us those recipes! They all sound great!

All of 3/3 er's are doing so good with our weight loss! YEAH US!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
