I'm still trying to decide about the lap band but have found a great amount of information here. Thanks!!

I am wondering about the gas. How bad is it really? You see, I'm prone to panic attacks where I think I'm having a heart attack. I want to lose the weight so the possiblilty of that heart attack will lessen. My question is, will I be constantly thinking I'm having a heart attack with the increased amount of gas? I hope you all don't think I'm crazy, but I don't want to set myself up for multiple panic attacks every day, kwim?

If you are referring to post-op gas, I was banded 01/15/08 and only had gas for 4 days after surgery. Gas-X and a heating pad did the trick. I have not had any food related gas pains yet though.

Good luck on your lap band journey!

You could just blame any pain you have on the gas. Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones that don't have any gas pain. I didn't when I had my gall bladder out. It wasn't bad with the band surgery.

Thanks!

My concern is that the gas is going to be so bad it'll send me into a panic attack? Have any of you experienced anything like that?

Hello,

I was banded on 1/14/08. I had read all about the horrible gas pain so I was prepared. However, I kept waiting for it to happen and thank goodness it never did. Not even once! So I guess every person is different.

Good Luck!

I was banded 10-31-07 and do have a lot of gas. It is not the painful kind that backs up into your check. Just the need to pass gas. I have lost 30 lbs and believe me the gas is worth it. My grandkids think is terribly funny.

If gas is what is what is causing you trepidation, then you will definitely freak when food gets stuck. It happens to everyone at some point. This surgery is worth it but there is a learning curve and some times of discomfort.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
