50 lbs lost in less than 2 months but no restriction

Recommended Posts

I have an appointment with my internist, the first since lap band surgery. While I detest scales, I prefer to believe the bariatric surgeon has the most accurate. Today on my visit to the bariatric surgeons office, my weight is exactly 50 lbs less than my pre-surgery weight. I now have a weight to give my internist.

The 50 lb loss is in less than 2 months since surgery. At this time, my concern is no restriction. However, since my last weigh in 2 weeks ago I've lost another 10 lbs. My weight loss seems to be slowing, but my doctor does not believe a fill is necessary if weight loss is in excess of 2 lbs a week.

Should I wait for a fill until a plateau is reached, or should I push for a fill to accelerate the weight loss?

Hi Restricted,

Can you just give a little run down of what you are doing? Are you feeling hungry? Are you eating real small portions, when you eat? Are you excercising? Great job!!!!!

If it aint broke, dont fix it. The more you can eat and still lose the better nourished you'll be.

I lost ALL my excess weight without going anywhere near that perfect half cup, no bread restriction everyone seems so desperate to achieve. It just is not always necessary, particularly if you're active.

The fact that you're losing means you DO have adequate restriction, but you're not aware of how much it is dampening your appetite and intake. Adequate restriction is simply where you're losing weight as fast as you want to, it cannot be defined by eating a certain amount or not being able to eat certain foods.

That's fabulous weight loss, you're doing something right, so keep doing it!

April, it's somewhere in your signature code. Go to Edit Signature in the Members Area on the right side of your screen and cut it out of there. You may need to replace your ticker but just make sure when you copy the code you only copy the ticker portion and not the ad that follows.

When you get closer to losing 1 lb per week you could start asking your doc about a fill. I wouldn't necessarily wait until you are a full plateau, but definitely I would hold off for now.

Congratulations!

I agree with everyone else. Just keep doing what's working for you.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

I've been very successful so far with no restriction either.<o:p></o:p>

I did get one small fill in Nov but I never felt a difference. I think I did it just to get the experience out of the way. Now I'm not anxious about the needle or anything - it was quick and painless.<o:p></o:p>

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
