banded 1/30 - why am I hungry?

Recommended Posts

britterz: Your lucky you're getting some restriction after one fill. Most of us start out with a similar size band, but inside we all have a different amount of fat around the stomach. so some will get restriction sooner than others. As you lose more weight, the first fill will become loose and you'll need another.

I'm glad your hungry is under control.

I didnt expect to have any restriction after surgery. My doctor wont do a fill for me for at least 6 weeks...however...I'm thinking I amy advance to mushies a few days sooner cuz I cant take my stomach CONSTANTLY growling...it hurts.

Are you doing a lot of Protein drinks? Consuming a lot of Protein will help your hunger. Please try not to stray from your doctor's post-op diet. They have you do this for a reason (i.e. to prevent slippage). Your stomach needs time to heal and the band needs time to get seated properly.

for what it's worth my dr has us advance to mushies post op day 3...he has a very low rate of slippage or complications.....take that for what it's worth

i was banded last month on 1-8. is band as it sounds it the head telling you your hungry and the stomach some. try not to cocentrate on it much. rememeber you want to lose. Try to focus on drinking your Water. in the beginning i would read these threads every few minutes. it wasn't until i saw someone suggestion of Isopure whey water that has 40 grams of Protein and 160 cal with for 20 0z. that is at least 1/3 rd of your 64 oz and it keeps you full. If you don't like the flavor muslce milk makes a similiar one i like that one better. and don't look at the calories remember your not eating but you need your protein. The hunger eventually goes away. And to anwey the feeling of fullness in the shoulder and other areas those are your new signals. the funny thing for me i used to drink coffee all the time i don't even desire it anymore

i apologize for the typo's.

I was trying to say as bad as it seems is that- are head is saying one thing and the band is saying another but we need to concentrate to accomplish our goals.

I feel a lot better today than I have....my big problem is "pressure" and STARVING!!!

I over did it today bc I went out and getting in and out of the car really made my stomach hurt....I'm glad I took a week off of work.

Where are you from? I'm on the east coast...good ole Alabama

You are not alone my friend. I am almost 3 weeks post-op and everything all of the people on these message boards says is true. Any restriction you feel is because you are swollen inside. By now, I fell almost no restriction. I figured this out the first time I could down a Protein Shake at a normal pace. Really try to eat 60-80 grams of Protein and you shouldn't feel too hungry. Unfortunately, I think this is just the process until you get your first fill...which can't come soon enough!! Hang in there. I posted a thread the other day because I actually gained weight eating 300 calories a day! It happens, read around, this site is amazing and really makes you feel like you are not alone. Good luck!

I am 11 days post op and jsut started the mushie stage. I never thought cottage cheese and refried Beans would taste sooooo good! I am trying to keep it to 1/4 to 1/2 cup but I too am starving. Found sugar free fudge pops great to take the edge off the sweet tooth. Actually had to ask my hubby if the pictures of my band were actually IN me and not some one else. Hope the healing inside is coming along as good as the outside.

Now I'm all worried....I took mashed potatoes and added a lot of Water to them today...I had maybe 3 or 4 bites...It was really watery...so it was really nasty...but I started looking in the problems area of this forum and was reading alot about band slipping....my doctor told me that he does a lot to prevent that but Now I'm freakin out...bc I dont want it to slip....I can have full liquids but somehow feel that my watery mashed pots wouldnt classify.....am I stressin over nothing?? I'm just worried.

I am 4 days post op and couldn't stop "eating"- really drinking yesterday. I had 2 things of baby food, 1.5 cups of Soup, cottage cheese, popsicles. The hunger pain just wouldn't go away. Today I'm doing Protein shakes... so hopefully that will help. It's nice to just vent about the hunger... it is painful!

Have you had your first fill yet? I had surgery 2/4 and had clear fluids the first 2 days, followed by full fluids for a week. I then got to eat soft food for a couple of days and now eat everything.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
