It's Starting to Come Off!

Recommended Posts

I've complained many times that after surgery I lost 12 pounds in a week and then NOTHING. I actually kept going up and down by 3 pounds for the next 3 weeks. Then last week the three pounds went away and I was back where I was the week after surgery. I stayed that way for several days and then yesterday woke to a .7 loss. I was in heaven!!!!

Went and got my first fill yesterday and this morning I awake to a 1.9 loss!

Seems that all of my hard work paid off and I am thrilled that I did not give in like I used to. Instead I stuck to my diet, added exercise and rode it out. That's a first for me, in the past I would have gotten discouraged and thrown it all away by chowing down on foods that make me feel better.

I'm very proud of myself. I just thought I'd share for those of you still going through the same experience following your December surgery.

Thanks everyone, I thought I'd share. So many of us go through the exact same thing and it's such a frustrating situation to be in. However, I just realized that if you average my 15 pound post-op loss over the 5 weeks I've been banded then I'm at about 3 pounds a week. That's a terrific number!

If it weren't for this forum I'd probably have eaten the house in the last few weeks.

Congrats Heather. I know how you feel. I've lost 14 as of yesterday ( got to up date the ticker). I almost lost it a couple of times already. I have a 2cc restriction, and for the past few days I didn't feel like it was there, then this morning my oatmeal was too much, at lunch I ate 1/2 of a piece of chicken tender, no mid day snack, and then ate crab/tuna wrap. I've got to also learn to sip more Water. I'm only getting about 40oz of water in lately, not including a cup of coffee and glass of tea(not every day). I can't wait to loose more.I go for a fill Feb. 7th and I can't wait. I've almost gotten depressed, but then I thought, 14 lbs in less than month is good. I hope I can loose 14 or more next month. Good luck to you. Felicia

I found that logging my weight and weighing every day (I know I know...there are a lot of nay-sayers out there on that) has been my big help. I expect plateaus and within those I expect to go up and down a pound here or there. My last plateau was almost 6 weeks (and I wasn't being particularly "good" during that time...over the holidays). But you know what, I can almost tell when it is about to break (and it always does, especially if you are experimenting with your intake during this time and doing different things instead of the same thing day after day). I woke up this morning to a 2.5 pound drop. I can expect to level off at that for about a week or two and then drop a little more. I am so close to my goal that I know these last few pounds will be slow....I can NOT complain. I've been obese for my entire life...another 6 months won't make any difference to lose the remaining weight!

kacee thanks for your post, i posted a thread the other day because ive been eating 1000 calories a day and exercising and i have stayed the same for one week now and am getting nervous. wow you went 6 weeks without anything thats along time. how did you get through it, did you think about getting another fill? i have had one fill and i can tell that i am getting full quicker and it stays for awhile. my next appt in on feb 26 so i may ask for another fill but i dont think that ill need many. there are a few times that i eat a little to much. i am currently eating about a cup of food. i know they want me to eat 1/2 a cup but one cup fills me up for now. hopefully soon i will get full on 1/2 a cup. how much do you eat? how long did it take you to get there? so overall i shouldnt worry about not losing this week?

andrea

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
