Dr. John Bagnato - Bagnato Bandits

Happy Trucker~ I'm right there with you, no family or true support group. I'll be having my band in a few weeks and I'm incredibly nervous. I go in on April 5th to do all the pre-op stuff and start the sugar buster diet. Maybe we'll meet at one of the meetings....when are they?

Also, anyone out there that has had problems with acid reflux? A friend of mine had the band 2yrs ago and has had serious issues~ so much to the point that he is now on meds for the esophogeal erosion. What causes the reflux? Are there certain foods to avoid that will prevent it?

Yeah the esophageal erosion has been a concern of mine also. The meeting times are posted on Dr. B's website. Sugar Buster diet is not that bad, but I'm going to do the last couple days with just Clear Liquids just to be safe.

Maybe someone with more experience will chime in...Good Luck to everybody.

Hi excitedmama, I got banded 3 yrs ago and lost well at first. I have since gained a bit back. It really is upsetting for me, but I am the only one who can turn it around. I am down a total of 25 pounds, but was down 45 pounds before gaining 20 back.

Are you following a specific diet? I need to start working out. Do you exercise?

Hi Excitedmama~ You're actually doing really well if you're already down 25lbs. I was banded April 16 and to date I'm only down 32 lbs....I'm very happy to be down that much but thought I would be down a lot more. My company relocated me from Georgia to Tennessee about a month after my surgery so I had to find a doctor here to do my fills...found one a couple months after I moved here. I'm averaging weight loss of about 4-6lbs a month. I figure the slower I lose it the better I am, I won't have sagging skin and will keep it off longer.

Drinking Water and walking are my new "best friends." Don't get discouraged, keep up the great work and you'll get there!:)

Hi guys, banded March 12th 2010. I've had a very slow loss thus far- 33lbs. BUT I have also been planning a wedding and my dad had a MASSIVE heart-attack and double bypass surgery in September so I missed 3mos of fills.

I just went yesterday and it's liquids for 2 days- minus the bite of noodles I snuck last night (I chewed them up really really well even tho my soontobe hubby told me NOT to eat them, he was right).

I am hoping to looooooose more and at a faster pace since this fill will put me at 6.75cc and the nurse said between 6.5 and 7.5 is most people's sweet spot!

I love the Bariatric Institute of SW GA...those girsl ROCK!!! I had a lot of questions and felt discouraged yesterday only loosing 8lbs in 3mos, but she reminded me it was a LOSS and not a GAIN and that jumping back on the bandwagon was easy since I am through recovery and through the rough spot! I am very very hopeful that this is my restart to loosing- since my wedding is in t-minus 99 days and counting. If I can loos 5lbs per week I could loose 70lbs before my wedding...which would kick me out of the 200 club and put me right at a size 14, which was my original goal- I'm just gonna have to work REALLY REALLY hard and Water, excercise, Water, excercise...like it's NOOOO tomorrow!!!

Wish me luck!!!

CONGRATULATIONS on your upcoming wedding. I hope you reach your goal. I go Wednesday for another fill up to 4.5cc maybe 1/2 c this time. I'm looking for a faster loss also maybe 8-10 per month this 3-5lbs is discouraging!! I've had to call the office also and they are very helpful. Have you been to any of the support meeting. Living an 1hr away is not good so I depend on websites for support. Hope you have a Great Thanksgiving and a good weight lost this month. My email is iewelder@hotmail.com if you would like to email me,

Hi everybody I am a Bagnato Bandit too. I started Sugar Busters at 3 weeks priof to surgery. I weighed 297 when I started Sugar Busters, 276 on the day of surgery on October 19th and I now weigh 248. I am so excited about my band and I am already starting to feel a little more like myself. I have so much more energy, sleep better and my joints do not hurt nearly as bad. I just love Dr. Bagnato and his staff and Leslie at the Bariactic Institute has been great (haven't met the other ladies yet). I am starting to feel hungry, so I am looking forward to my first fill on Nov 30th. I hope to hear from other Bagnato Bandits. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!:D

Hello Bandits:

I have not posted on this forum in forever, but things are going well for me. I've thrown my share of the classic :argue: "You are *not* the boss of me and I *will*eat (fill in the blank with what I know my band says I can't have)" tantrums with my band. My band just saucily responds, "Oh, I *am* the boss of you. And if your hard-headed butt wants (fill in the blank) that badly, you can have it. Matter of fact, you can have it TWICE...once going down and then again coming back up."

Sigh. Some people just can't out grow being hard headed.

In spite of the occasional battle of wills, I am still loosing. I was banded in February 2008, by Dr. Bagnato. At that time I was 325 lbs and in a 26/28. I am now 204lbs and in a 16/18. If I could just get out of the holiday drama and get back on track with my exercise, I might even see one-der land some time in the next month or two.

But I am working on that..

I hope to meet some of you at the Christmas party today. If you see me come and say hello!!

To the Bandits (old and new) Happy Holidays and Great success. :welldoneclap:

Hello

So excited to find other patients from Dr. Bagnato. I have talked to several people on Facebook that have had lapband but none are from my area. I live in Cairo and work in Mitchell County. Had my surgery on Dec. 21.

Didn't lose much before (during sugar busters) but have lost 15 since. Going for 1st fill on Feb. 1. Wasn't hungry at all first 2 weeks but this week has been harder! I liked the not being hungry feeling and am worried now that I will start eating too much and not lose!!!

Hey everyone! I hope you guys don't mind that I've started a new thread. I've been talking to Terri from Dr. B's office, and she wants to email all of Dr. Bagnato's patients about this website and this support chat that all of us Bagnato Bandsters have going on. She was really impressed by how we've been supporting each other and wants all of Dr. B's patients to be able to come here and get support.

I wanted the title of the thread to be clear and make sure everyone who was banded by Dr. Bagnato knows that they are welcome here, even if they don't live in Albany.

For anyone who is interested, we have formed a support group and have decided to meet once a month.

Our first group meeting will be Feb. 7th at Ruby Tuesday in Tifton, Ga at 6:00 pm. This meeting is basically just a "get to know each other" meeting. I hope to see all of you there!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
