I dont have any insurance, so Dr. Sanchez in MOnterrey Mexico seems very appealing. Has anyone else had their surgery done by him?

Not yet, but I will be having surgery with Dr Sanchez on August 5th. I too am self pay, and thought with his experience, and the cheaper price, it was definately the way to go.

Yes, Medicredit did the financing, that seems to be the one that Dr Sanchez uses. I am all set for the 5th, we have our airline tickets booked, and it's exciting! I am more worried about the flights than I am about the surgery! My husband is worried, but he has never been overweight, and just can't put himself in my position. He can't understand why I just can't go on a diet. But he is standing by me on my decision to be banded, he can see how being overweight makes me unhappy.

I also have been researching a long time. I originally looked at the RNY, but the more I looked at it compared to the band, I just couldn't bring myself around to the idea of having my insides re-arranged permanently. Just too drastic for me. :(

I know exactly what you are talking about. I saw that you too are self employed. dont you feel that being overweight sometimes makes people see you as not as sucessful as you are. i dont know, i feel that way alot of the time. if you are anything like me, i have done all the diets, its not about the "diet". i have pinpointed my pitfalls, and i have recognized the fact that the band is a tool...its an aid to help. and i am so ready for that. please email me anytime....id love to stay in touch with you over the next few weeks, and after...its nice having an oklahoma connection...

feel free to email me at djbroome@swbell.net

Dr. Rodolfo Sanchez performed my lap-band placement in April 2003. I could not be happier with him. I had mine done in Reynosa which is just across the border from McAllen, Texas, where I live. He has taught many of the doctors now doing the lap band surgery in Mexico and the U.S. I very highly recommend him.

Hi,

It is good to hear from all of you who ventured to Mexico. I was looking at Dr. Sanchez and his package. It sounds first class. I went with Dr. De LaGarza in Reynosa because they had a cancelation and the time was convenient for me. One of the nice things about Mexico is you don't have to wait like you do in the states. Once I made my final decision to do it I was in surgery in 2 weeks. De LaGarza offered a complete package just like Sanchez. The surgery and hospital stay was first class. We stayed in someone's private home in McAllen TX and it was okay but kind of dorm quality. The suites shown on the Web site for Sanchez look great.

I just got back from Monterrey. Dr. Sanchez did my band on Aug. 1st. and I must tell you that it was a fabulous experience. He and all of his staff are a pleasure. Monterrey is beautiful and all of the people there are wonderful. Dr. Sanchez is very experienced and my banding went very well.

I had my surgery done on Tuesday in Monterrey, and I can truly say that Dr Sanchez offers a wonderful service for his patients. We were picked up at the airport by Alex, one of Dr Sanchez's assistants, and he drove us everywhere. To the hotel, the hospital, back to the hotel, back to the airport. There is no way we could have done it if we'd had to drive in Monterrey! Dr Sanchez is a very nice man, a kind hearted man, and is a very experienced lap band surgeon. The hospital was wonderful, clean and efficient and the nursing staff were so kind, even when we didn't speak the same language! The CEO of the hospital even came by my room to introduce himself - where does that happen in the states?! He said that Dr Sanchez is one of the top 3 lapband surgeons in the world. I am 3 days post op, I survived the flights back yesterday, and can truly recommend Dr Sanchez and his staff.

So glad to hear you got back safe and sound. My friend Ody at work got it done the same day as you so it will be interesting to see how you both progress.

Thanks Jeanette

I'm glad to hear of another Dr. Sanchez patient! I fly out on 8/13 for mexico!! I talked to AnnMarie this morning and to Rosemarie who I guess was there at the same time as Barb? I'm so excited. FYI I got 2 low % credit cards Pulanski Bank 5.9 and the no hassle Citibank 4.9. I Can't Wait! It's taken me 2 mo.s to pull this together. The only worry I'v got is I'm going alone, but from everything I'v read I'll be fine.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
