Oct 07 Bandsters - how are you doing?

Recommended Posts

I am uber happy about my band.. I have lost 40lbs and love it. However, I feel i have to stay away from the boards (here) as much as possible bcuz I found myself getting depressed if I saw that someone else was losing more weight than i am. I know it sounds stupid but I try to tell myself that everyone loses it at their own pace but I can't help but "compare" myself to everyone.

IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!

I hate doing that but I don't know how to end the cycle.. I miss you all terribly!!! *sigh*

If it isn't one head thing it is another. ...

I will pop in every so often and I do receive all my PM's to my personal email box.. but other than that.. I am scared of my own destructiveness by following all ur weight loss. WHY AM I THIS WAY?

Does anyone else feel this way?

Also - congrats to everyone who is losing weight. I truly am happy for u and hope u keep it up.

Talk to everyone soon?

Amy

I had my band done October 29th, I have the VGA band and have lost 38 pounds. I have been having problems with people at work not just offering me things that are fattening-like pizza and soda, but actually putting said food in front of my face. It wasn't just a onetime thing, they would do this repeatedly. I was wondering if anything like this had happened to anyone else.

Ok october bandsters I need your support and advise. I just booked another small fill. I am at 7cc so on my 4th. I can still eat more than a cup of food. I have a hard time with bread but not with cookies! I have been making some very bad food choices. I still work out and will not give up the excersise but I think I am only loosing about 1lb per week. I know if I made better choices I could loose more. HELP.

This is my first post for this forum. I was banded in Detroit on October 24. Have had no fills due to complications of pulmonary emboli (rushed to hospital 11-1). My first fill is coming up on Valentine's day. We've put it off because I'm on blood thinners. My dietary restrictions have doubled, since the thinner also puts on restrictions. I have really down days. I'm hungry all the time, and to make matters worse, I have personality conflicts with the dr's nutritionist. Since I started the pre-op liquids, til now, I've lost 40 pounds, with the majority pre-op. I'm no longer a "spring chicken" and wonder if I've made a big mistake, having this done. I guess I'm just feeling sorry for myself today. Anyhoo...thanks for listening.

Julia

This purile behaviour is so sad

I am sorry you have to be contact with these saddo's on a daily basis. I have only suffered this in the early days when I became a vegetarian, my reasons are ethical ones. I eventually became so tired of these cretins that gradually I attended less and less functions, and didn't bother eating in the work lunchroom anymore. Recently it became easier, as life and people move on, but I won't put myself in that situation now.

It is a bit the same with my band, only my husband and I know, and I don't regret this decision. I feel so bad for bandsters who have shared their joy and hopeful expectations with, family or more particularly work colleagues, only to be really suffering mental anguish down the track.

I really hope you can deal with this harrassment,

Hugs

If you have told them that you are not interested in pizza, soda, or anything of that nature and they still put it in front of you then they are a jealous group of people; that is all this boils down to! They may hate the fact that you are successful and they may want you to fail! How low can they go? Keep your chin up and don't feel bad; just keep the picture in your mind of your thin self walking into the office in the near future wearing cute clothes. Pizza and soda can't hold a candle to how good it will be seeing them turn green with envy!

(Let them stuff their face...they will get fatter and you will get thinner...even better! Woo Hoo.)

As of today I have lost 41 pounds I have a 10cc band with .6cc's in it. As for restriction I only have it in the morning. after that I drink protien for my Snacks and eat protien rich meals. It seems that I lose weight in spurts I'll go a few days with no weight loss then lose a bunch for a couple of days.

That's awesome! I was banded on Halloween & today I hit my 30lb mark. I was so happy. I am new to this online support thing, but I see from other people's weight loss that it varies for each individual. However, I do not think that I'm getting as much Protein on a daily basis as I should be. I saw your remarks about your restriction being only in the mornings, (me too), and that you complete the rest of your day with mostly protein. Can you tell me some of the things you're eating so I can get some kind of idea of other things to add to my diet? Congrats again on your loss, I hope to speed up a little more, I've only had one fill though since surgery & go back for the 2nd on the 27th of this month so...I guess we'll see.

I have good restriction during the day but evenings are hard. I want and can eat and eat. I think I may have a leak because everytime I go for a fill I have under 1 cc in my 10cc band. I am going back in a couple of weeks to check again. We'll see.

Things are going well for me - although not as fast as some of the people on here. I am down 30 in total and that includes the holidays and my recent trip to Cabo.

In case you were wondering, Margaritas are band friendly! I went way overboard. I just got my 4th fill on Tuesday (the fill was torture - new nurse) but I am happy and hoping to see some quick results. I have even considered starting an excercise prgam (as opposed to thinking about one and never quite getting around to it.)

I am getting lots of compliments - most dont know that I had surgery and they ask like crazy what I am doing.

Hope everyone is doing well and we can all get to the 5 month mark with more success.

Well, it's 4 months later ... so I'll post pics ...

The 1st pic was taken a few months before surgery ... the 2nd pic is the "old me" MINUS almost 60 pounds.

I'm pleased! :cheers2:

Hello out there!!

I'm from cincinnati ohio and was banded on nov 3 2007, I've lost about 28 pds from the time I started. But I'm at a point now where I have 5.5 cc in a 10 cc band. But this whole time has been strange, one day I can eat more, the next day I'm fighting to get something down. This band has it's own mind, they say it's hormones, stress ect, does anyone else have this problem??????

THANKS SO MUCH!!! It's strange but I don't see the weight loss until I look at the pics. I've hit a plateau with the weight loss though .... so I've scheduled my 3rd fill appt.

Hello there from Kentucky! I haven't been on here since December! I was banded on October 4th of 2007. I've had 2 fills in the larger 10cc band I believe. So far, things have been good. I have to admit that my weight loss would probably be more if I'd exercise on a daily basis. That's my new goal! We have a treadmill at home and we've also joined the YMCA. Overall, I'm tickled with my success. It's so nice that my clothes are feeling loose! And to see the scales go down is such a joy! I look forward to getting on here more often....it really gets us motivated to read others stories!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
