I'm home and banded!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I just got home this morning from my surgery yesterday (15th!). I've been pretty sore - kind of like I have done a million crunches.

I went to the hospital at 7am and was taken to my room. I put my "special" gown on and my precious little hat and was taken to the theatre at about 9.15. My gorgeous anaesthetist put my IV in first go and gave me some sedation. That was the last thing I remember.

I woke up back in my room, although a do remember snippets from recovery. I was in pain and had some pethidine. I was started on Water to sip, which I really didn't feel like, but I tried. I shared a room with another bandster who was feeling it a lot more than me.

I've had a little sleep and feel a little better. The hospital experience was pretty good, I can't complain, although it felt like the longest night!

Sipping lots,

Jen

Greeneyez,

So glad to hear that your surgery went okay. I was thinking of you all, since I think there were a few also getting banded this week.

I can't wait, I keep praying for a way for this to get done. I am so fearful that I am going to have to wait years since I am going to be a self-pay.

Can't wait to hear specifics, when you feel like sharing! Good 4 u! I just know from reading others' comments that it will get better and better for you! Take care!

Greeneyez,

I forgot to ask, how much is 70 kg, and if you don't mind me asking, what pre-op diet did you have, and what kind of post-op are you on? Just curious, as I am still learning about Lap band.

Hi Chuckles, 1 kg = 2.2 pound. So if you multiply 70 by 2.2 that will give you my goal in pounds. My surgeon thinks I can get to 65, but I don't remember being that weight! I thought about putting my ticker in pounds, it seems like a bigger amount when you lose!

I didn't have a pre-op diet. My surgeon prescribes Optifast based on your waist measurement - lucky that is the smallest part of me!

I am on 2 weeks of liquid diet - Soups (without lumps), Optifast shakes, custard, yoghurt - anything that will go through a straw. It's not too bad, I just don't feel like it, but I'm pushing myself because I know I need the Fluid and energy.

Hoping tomorrow is a better day, I've felt pretty miserable today, I'm at home on my own. Taking antibiotics and Digesic for pain relief. Not sure what brand name for Digesic is in US, but it has paracetamol and dextropropoxyphene in it.

Greeneyez,

Greeneyz,

Thanks for the info. What time is it there? I live in Texas, USA, and it is 1:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, Central time. I guess it is day over there huh?

Aw, I am so sorry to hear that you are alone! You don't have anyone around to help? If I was close by, I would come and help! I believe everyone needs help some time. Well I send you warm wished and prayers up. Hopefully you will feel better tomorrow! Take care.

Thanks Chuckles, my time here is just after 6pm in Sydney. Mum picked me up from the hospital, but seriously, there isn't much anyone can do for me. My puppies did notice that I wasn't well and gave me lots of hugs this afternoon.

My husband is coming home soon. He took yesterday off work to take me in, but in hindsight, he would have been more help having today off work. We had a terrible thunderstorm this afternoon and as my DH works for the electrical company, he got caught up. We need the rain as we are in drought, so I'm not complaining.

Glad to hear you are home and hope you start to feel more comfortable very soon. Today was my first whole day out to the kids playground at St Kilda (SA) and then to Tea Tree Plaza shops to buy a house warming present for my friend and her partner. Going to the house warming tonight.

Take care, rest up and keep sipping. I now feel nearly totally human!!

Congrats Jen!

Glad to hear your hospital experience went well.

The pain will get better. Every day will be better than the last.

I also remember not feeling like drinking anything much for the first 2 weeks, but like you said, it is important so keep sipping!

It'll only get better from here on in.

Good luck and I hope you sleep well tonight.

Nic

So happy to hear you are doing alright, I hope the puppies remember not to jump; If/when I get mine I will have to remember to lock myself in my room as I have 3 cats that love to cuddle. *l*

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
