Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

Hello, I just found you! I'm 51 and got my first fill Jan. 30, 09. I don't feel to much of a difference, just a tiny bit. I had surgery on the 18th of Dec. and have lost 25 pounds. I get on the scales way to much, so have decided to just go by the docs scale when I have appt., I was weighing at 3 in the morning. Crazy. I was hoping :cursing: for more loss, but am happy with what I've had. Glad I found you guys, thanks. TYF

Welcome Trenia

OMW you are the worse that I have met about getting on the scales at 3 in the morn :lol::frown: That's just too funny.

Yep girl - stay off the darn scales - the doc visit is a good idea - I only went to the doc every 2 months so I just picked one day a week to weigh in...

Congrats on your 25 lbs gone - that's really good

Alot of pple don't feel much diff after their 1st fill - I felt mine for like 2 weeks then had to go back for my 2nd one and that one got me to my sweet spot - but I seem to be a lucky one getting to sweet spot so fast..

Look forward to chatting with you...

Hi Everyone,

Had the Barium Swallow test this morning and it's not good news at all I'm afraid. It took the doctor ages just to find the band and when he finally found it, it had slipped right to the end of my stomach. He said that is why I've been vomiting so badly. The whole stomach has been getting filled and distended but not letting anything through to the intestines and therefore coming up again. This will have caused the 6th hernia as well.

I rang the surgeons rooms and his receptionist just told me to keep my appt on Friday morning.

This news has devastated me and I broke down and cried. This is the second time the band has slipped. It was a close call 4 years ago with another surgeon. This new one stitched the band to the stomach, so what on earth happened to make it come loose this time???!!!

I'll have to be packed to go in on Monday, that's when he operates. My week has already been booked out with appts for my parents etc. I'm so very sad.

Best wishes.

I am praying for you to have closure of the problems and to be re banded with positive results.

Katy, Would it be possible for you to have a revision surgery and get a sleeve? There are more and more people these days who are losing their bands and getting revision surgery. You can look at the bottom of the main page for all the people who have gotten the sleeve surgery.

I know a lady who had nothing but problems with the band from day one, and is extremely happy since she got the sleeve. With the sleeve, there is no worrying about fills and unfills. They make you a tiny stomach from the non stretchy part of the stomach and that is the end of it!

Janet,

What kinds of things do you eat that are low fat? I have always counted my Protein and calories, but maybe what I am eating is higher in fat. I always buy low fat cheese, and my main meat is chicken, but counting fat grams has never been something I worried about. I know you always

say to eat low fat, so maybe I am consuming too much fat and that is why I am having trouble?

I have done the pouch test diet, and lost 5 lbs and immediately gained it back when I went back to regular eating. It's basically 2 days liquids, 2 days mushies and one day of hard protein.

Hi Oregondaisy,

Thankyou I'll have a look and read up on it.

I think I'll be cheeky and ask him to cut some fat out and some wrinkly skin while he's there too. LOL. Who knows, maybe he'll do it..............hope, hope, hope.

Best wishes.

Best of luck, all of us are sending prayers and thoughts your way. And also towards your surgeon that he may do the very best job possible. (And I wish I could send you my surgeon, he is the best, but let's hope all the positive vibrations do the trick.)

As you go under anesthesia, picture yourself surrounded by loving friends, all picturing the best possible outcome for you, helping everything go perfectly, helping you have success with the operation and the fastest and smoothest healing with the best outcome ever. (There's been a lot of research on the effect of positive thinking on outcomes from surgery, it is really possible to make things go better through these techniques.)

So, we're there with you in spirit, surrounding you with a circle of love and attention, making sure that everything goes well, that you are well taken care of, that you know you are deeply appreciated and important.

Good luck! We are waiting to hear how well it all went! :):thumbup:

Hi Lompocbander,

Thankyou, I will certainly be doing this and I've booked all my loved ones from the other side to be with me also.

Best wishes.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
