Hi all...it has been quite awhile since my last post...hope all is well with everyone...I am coming up on my 1 year anniversary January 31st...I have had only one fill to date and am still very restricted...I have lost 128 pounds...my question is am I a freak of nature or are there others like me out here? I am considering have a half of a cc taken out due not being able to eat...I mean certain things I can tolerate..alot I cannot...I am more restricted in the morning and afternoon..then in the evening is when I have my best luck of eating...not complaining mind you..just wondering if any others like me out there...

I had a half cc taken out because I kept getting stuck. I was under alot of stress.....now the stress has eased and I can eat anything. Do you think it is stress related?

I don't live to far from you....Pearland. I have been looking for a local support group. Do you know of one? Dr. Davis offers one downtown, but I don't drive at night downtown.

There is a DFW Yahoo Bandsters group. I was in that for a while, might rejoin later. There were folks from the surrounding area and they used to meet different areas, even south of Dallas had folks who meet at restaurants to get together with other bandsters.

Might find some from your area in that group?

I was too new to want to meet folks for lunch or dinner and be tempted to eat food that I know I shouldnt eat, so I hadnt gone to any get togethers in Texas yet, but I might one day when Iv lost a little more weight. I found them very dismissive of newbies, as if we couldnt know about the band and only folks who had lost a lot were listened to. I think many newbies have done so much research, they know just as much.

FLOWERS, thanks for the info. I might join the yahoo group. I do know of serveral banded ladies here , but I haven't asked if they belong to a support group. Right now, LBT is my only band support. I do go to a weight loss bible study, but none of the ladies are banded. It is good spiritual and emotional support.

Wow! Bombero, congrats on the amazing weight loss! You are inspiring to many of us! I think many of us also have more restriction in the morning and early afternoon. I've gotten to where I either skip lunch or have a Protein shake; for Breakfast, I just have coffee and very runny oatmeal (or a shake). For myself, I am grateful for the restriction and want it to continue (as I have a lot more to lose). I would be thrilled to have lost 128 pounds by my one year anniversary!

Congrats girl on your 128 loss - that's fantastic!!

On the restriction issue - I have never been so thigh as not able to eat all kinds of foods - For me I didn't want to be that tight and also I am lucky that I really don't find that my band is tigher in the morning than at night - the only thing that tightens my band is exercise and stress..

I can eat about 1 to 1 1/2 cups per meal - and I am fine with that and I have been able to maintain my weight and for me that's what my band is for to help me maintain a healthy weight...

I think it's really up to you - if you so tight that you can't ejoy hard protiens in normal portions (3 -4 oz) and some veggies and maybe a few bites of a starch I would say have some taken out..

But if you are thinking about having some taken out cuz you are at goal and think now that OH I can eat again cuz I have lost the weight (this has been my thinking at times - I have thought about having a tad taken out - and truly I am at a perfect spot and this is why I was banded for the Portion Control issues) - so think long and hard why you want some taken out - is it cuz you want to eat more now that you are at goal or is it cuz you really can't eat regular foods cuz you are too tight.. I know that some keep their bands so tight that it really forces them not to be able to eat normal and since I still like to eat both for the taste, nutrition and menatally I didn't - plus being too tight can cause problems.

Just giving you my actual thought and experiences about my thinking about my band and my mental issues..

Wow Phyl, I hadnt been on here for several months. Was just reading posts. You are looking really good. Are you going south for the winter this year?? Take care

She's here she came early this year !!

Hi Katydid, the seminar I went to, the lady used to have a lapband and lost her weight with it, and then had to have it removed because of reflux and she had another type of WLS. The reflux wouldnt go away, so now she has the sleeve. I was wondering if this is a side effect for some? I hope your doctor can find a good answer for you that works. Scary Im sure and worrisome for you, its rough not sleeping (and here I am up at 5:30, been awake since 3 am, so I know all about insominia).

I didn't sleep well either last night - leg cramps - didn't get enough fluids yesterday - I was up from like 2 - 3:30 and then got up at 5 and I swear I didn't sleep between 3:300 and 5..

Flowers - I don't go to my support group - 1 cuz it's like 30 minutes away and I get home too late and for me it was about some of the newbies making excuses (not saying that you do) as to why they couldn't do this or that - plus just like any other social setting clicks form. I would say that when I went to the lapband council in June that pple who had gotten to goal hung together - and those who hadn't hung together - and each sorta poo-pooped each other.. It's life - some pple click and others don't

- I perfer LBT it's been my support for the last 17 months.. Heck it's open 24/7 where support groups are like once a month

WELL, I pb'd this morning. This episode lasted 2hrs. I just can't burp after the food comes up. I feel so much pain in my chest. Anyway, I finally put a pill under my tongue(something the dr gave me for colon spasms) and I finally burped and got relief. I go to the dr. for a fill on thursday. Do you think it might be some kind of spasm in my esophagus? I don't know. I guess it won't hurt to ask. I pb'd on scrambled eggs. I didn't have time to eat this morning until 10. Maybe I should have eaten a little something earlier. Enough rambling.....just thought this might be happening to someone else.

was banded June 28th. Counting the pre-surgery diet I have lost a total of 24 pounds and nearly all of that was the pre-surgery diet. In the beginning I was NOT doing any extra walking or exercising. For about a month now I have added 2-3 times up six flights of stairs and recently some jogging on one of those small trampoline joggers. Nothing happening yet.

It seems recently some days I can eat ok, minus of course the foods that no longer agree with me, (chicken, steak, eggs, tortillas, bread), other days I cannot even eat oatmeal without vomiting. Those days everything I eat is so painful if I am not vomiting , I am praying to.

I am so disappointed with myself.

PM me with the site. It just depends on when they meet. Baytown is a little further than I wanted to go.

Sorry to hear of your difficulties. Scrambled eggs are difficult for many bandsters.

Interesting, because they were the first thing I was allowed on mushies. It's odd how different foods affect different folks differently.

Laney, sounds like you are too tight, though bread and tortillas don't agree with many folks. But you need to get in the hard Proteins in meats. Are you taking small bites? chewing chewing and chewing some more? I'll have days where I am tighter than others and different foods will bother me that don't bother me on other days.

As you get tighter, they can become a problem. Especially if overcooked until dry. (Rubbery hard boiled eggs can do the same. Poached and soft boiled are friendlier.)

I haven't had a problem with them yet. I just had some for dinner, scrambled with onion, pepper, broccoli and cauliflower, with little bits of ham, seasoned with five spice powder and the like and a little teriyaki sauce. Yum.

You are right. I have pb'd on hard boiled eggs too. Once again, I probably ate too fast.....I just had to whine.

Hi, there!

Yeah, we got down here early in October this year. Weather has been great. This weekend, not so much, but for the most part, very pleasant.

Got that pain in my side again tonight... port site, I think. It lasted about an hour. Started not long after dinner. Don't know what's causing that.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
