Hi guys,

This is a new forum for 30's! I am 32, I live in Sydney Australia and I am being banded next Tuesday 15th Jan. I can't hardly wait for it, I've been overweight more than half my life and tried everything.

I am nervous about my immediate post op pain, nausea and how I will cope, but so many people on here do it every day, so I guess I will manage. I have a very supportive DH who really looks after me, so I am half way there already.

I can't wait to enjoy my 30s more than my 20s.

Jen

I'm 31 and from Perth, Western Australia.

I was banded in Nov '07. I love the improvements being made to LBT, such as these new forums.

Wow Amy, you look great! I really should start my own blog, but never been able to finish it. Oh well, I will just have to try and then in 10 years I will look back on it and laugh!

I am 30 and live in New Zealand. I have been banded since August.

I was overweight or obese for most of my twenties (21 was the last time I was at a 'normal' weight) and I have sworn that I will not spend my thirities in the same position. This year is the year to shed the skin and become a flirty thirty!!!

I am 34 and live in Kansas. I was banded Feb 27, 2007. So far I have lost 124 pounds. I started out at 400.

I think I am the first guy to post in here too. Glad to see the new area here. My goal is to have all the weight loss completed by the end of 2008. I have somewhere around 100 more pounds to go for normal BMI, but I will be happy at 199!

Hi all. I am 37 and live in Georgia. I was banded in October, 2007. I remember on my birthday, December 31, I looked in the mirror and thought to myself that this was the last birthday I will have as an overweight person. It felt good to realize that.

Hi there...I'm 32, and I live in Houston. I love the band! I was banded in Sept and I've lost 50 pounds so far. I have 100 more to go! :P I've been overweight since I was 10, and so far this is the only thing that's worked.

Hi everyone! I am 39 years old from Atlanta, Georgia. My surgery is scheduled for 1/10/08 (2 more days!!!). I start my pre-op, clear liquid diet in the AM.

I have only been overweight the last 10-12 years of my life. I gained weight with pregnancies, got into gourmet cooking and gained more weight, took up emotional eating, etc. The next thing I knew, I saw a photo of myself at a family event. I knew I was at my heaviest, but the photo made me cringe! "Who is that overweight, puffy lady?" OMG! That's me?!?!? I actually thought I looked nice that night! My face was so swollen! I was so embarrased (like it had happened overnight, yet everyone had being seeing me that way for years).

I decided to give Weight Watchers yet another try. It worked for 2 months, then I fell off the wagon, gained back the weight, plus 5 pounds. I finally realized I needed a serious medical intervention...Lap-Band seems like the solution that will finally work. Going through these boards for the past few weeks has convinced me, that although this is no easy solution, it is the best solution for me. I am so excited!

Hi all...I just turned 34 in December. So far I think my 30's are better than my 20's because I'm getting my life back.

This thread should be interesting. Any other 30-Somethings out there who are not married yet?? Or, am I the ONLY one who isn't and still has no kids???? Errrr.

Hi all, am 31 years old (and to Lapbandit, yes am married, but no kids yet which is a big part of why I got this surgery). I have been overweight since forever - never had a "skinny" day in my life. However, my weight has gone steadily up up up for the last 10 years and I look back at high school when I weighed under 200 lbs and think "damn I looked good!" Isn't that sad... :P

Welcome to everyone and good luck!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
