Anyone want to join me in a get back into the swing of things support thread???

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm Lorraine and I have been banded for just shy of 6 months. I've done really well and am quite proud of myself. I've lost 80lbs in 5 months and this last month absolutely killed me and I am back to 78lbs. uggh!

I have a fill scheduled for 1/11, and am really looking forward to it as I have only had one fill and received absolutely no restriction from it...(well, I'm lying...I do have to chew more now...that's it).

Dh (also banded) and I joined our local Y last week and it's so much better than our old gym...so I can really see myself using it way more often. Especially because childcare is included in a family membership...the last place was $3 a child....so $9 to put my kids in so I could workout...hard to dish that much money out when you're a stay at home mom...and your dh is a teacher!!! :(

Well, I really tried to be as dedicated as possible during the holidays, but I found myself forgoing healthy food so I could eat Cookies (especially) and potatoes and not gain weight. That is soooo unhealthy.

I'm finding it difficult to break the carb addiction again. I do well in the morning and then when I put the kids to nap, I want to eat every carb in the house...I'm literally dreaming about having a pb&j...I might have to give in before my fill....

So, I'm wondering who else is struggling to get back on plan and hoping you all will join me and we can support eachother back into our healthy banded lifestyle.

I know I'm not alone...join me!!! Or, if you are not going through the same thing, verbally beat me up...I think I could use some of that too.!!! Truly!

Oh, and I'm also struggling because I have a raging sinus infection which is affecting my teeth and ear...I've been on abx since NYEve, but I don't think they are working...so, like the fat person who's addicted to food that I am, I am attempting to eat my way through the pain...ummmm...it's not helping...and yet I'm not stopping!!!

join me friends...

Rain

I mistakenly sucked down 3 Werther's butterscotch drops last week.....let me rephrase that....I STUPIDLY sucked down 3 Werther's last week....then went back yesterday and sucked down FOUR more!!! I haven't tasted Werther's for about 20 years....

They do make sugar-free Werther's. I'm not all THAT into Werther's, but I have some of the sugar-free variety in the cupboard. Maybe try those out.

I agree - carbs have to be the most diabolical, sneaky thing to have ever been created.

I hate what I've been doing to myself over the holidays. It doesn't help to have very little restriction but I worked out that I can't get off the carb binging at the moment. I would like to join you with sticking with the plan because I'm out of control at the moment. Every day I said I would stick with it and have failed to do so. I'm back at work tomorrow which I know will help but I need to take action. I haven't weighed myself for the last 3 days but my blubbery tummy tells the story. Will be calling for an earlier fill appointment so wish me luck.

Hi All,

I'm in the same boat as you all. I have been addicted to the carbs and suger since thanksgiving. And to make things worse i can't seem to get motivated to work out. I luckly have been able to maintain but need to get back on track to get to my goal. I have lost 92Lbs since april all before thanksgiving. I have olnly 20lbs to get to goal. So i need some motivation and suggestions to get back on track. I told my husband yesterday that if there anything in the pantry or the fridge that he wants he need to remove it and hide it because today I'm cleaning out the pantry and fridge to replace it with all my healthy Snacks thats my start. Hope fully my new puppy will get me out to go walking to get started in exersising again. Well good luck to all!!! Please post and suggestions on how to get me off the suger!!. Also does anyone know how long you need to stop eating suger before the craving end?

Good Luck!!!:help:

I also am having a hard time cutting out the carbs again. I think I am going to do Atkins induction phase for a week or 2 to get me back on track. I really hate carb addiction. I got a fill on the 3rd of January. I finally have good restriction. Now I just have to start putting good food in my mouth.

Jack, I love your philosophical posts. They always inspire me. Ok, here we go, lets take the fork in the road.

OK...this is my kinda thread! We all started with a fresh slate as of January 1st. So, let's just resolve that whatever is done is done and start focusing on the New Year!

I eat carbs...complex carbs as part of my regular diet. But, over the holidays I had gotten myself hooked back on those yummy crap carbs that are found in all kinds of delicious holiday treats. Same with sugar...if I stay away from sugar then I stop craving it but if I start with Cookies and junk then I want MORE MORE MORE.

So, I took two days and "detoxed" myself by drinking nothing but Water and Protein shakes. I drank at least 64 oz of Water daily plus my how ever many Protein shakes I needed --6 per day usually. This got my body re-hydrated and let my cravings subside.

The intent was for me to take a break from eating and re-learn how to appreciate food instead of just shovelling in whatever looked delicious as I've done for the past few weeks.

My experiment worked...I appreciate my food again and have lost those cravings for the junk. I have regained my appreciation for good foods again and am happily back on track eating protein-rich and well-balanced meals like a good little bandster.

So, I'm not suggesting this is right for everyone. I'm just saying it was right for me and really helped me gain perspective on how to get back on track.

What a great idea, Lapbandit. In fact I think I will start a thread in the form of a challenge. See who all would like to do that and hold each other accountable. Such challenges really help keep me motivated.

i Too Have Been On A Carb High Lately. I Even Went On An All Night Carb Binge Two Nights Ago. Thank Goodness I Go Back To Work Tomorrow. I Have Been Feeling So Crappy Lately. I Cannot Seem To Get Back Into The Swing Of Things. I Haven't Exercised In Over 2 Weeks. The Good Thing Is That I Haven't Gained Any Weight Back, But I Haven't Lost Any Weight Either, Which Is Very Depressing For Me. Please Someone Chew Me Out And Help Me Get Up Off My A** To Exercise.

Thanks and hopefully you feel better afterwards too.

Just for the record, I do think it's important for us to eat "real food" and I'm not saying doing a temporary liquid diet is something we should do often. I just did it to kind of get me back into our newbie days when we were so focused...you know...the good old days when this was all so new to us and we were little bandster angels!!

It worked for me and brought me back into a really good place so I wanted to share it. After two days of Protein shakes and Water just like our pre-op days, I was very appreciative to be having some beef and steamed veggies for dinner again!! By the end of day two...forget Cookies...I was ready to appreciate some good, healthy food!!!!!!!!!

PS-I tried those Ziploc steamer bags and put some zucchinni and yellow squash in there---came out perfect!!!!!! I didn't even add any fats like butter...just some "Molly McButter" flakes, substitute salt and pepper--wonderful! Those bags are expensive but it was so quick and easy that I think I'm going to buy more when I finish the box!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
