Goals, Rewards ... How are you staying motivated?

Recommended Posts

How have you guys been going about setting and meeting goals?

Do you not set goals?

Do you reward yourself?

How are we doing Crazy Ates?! Staying motivated?

I've found that a big motivator for me has been having a vacation or big event scheduled so I could set a mini-goal and work really hard towards that date.

Surgery in Aug:

- vacation to FL in late Oct. That really pushed me to lose as much as I could before vacation.

- Christmas. I knew that at the beginning of Dec I was going to be seeing a lot of people I had not seen since surgery. (I live in a different state now) That really pushed me to stay motivated after my vacation.

- vacation to Vegas in mid Jan. Another vacation in a few weeks kept me in check over the holiday and has kept me motivated now.

I'm scared ... I have nothing left after Vegas - lol! I think I'm going to hint to my BF that I want to go to Atlantic City for my birthday in April. I really want to be -100lbs by then!!!

Hi Candle,

I need to set goals to motivate myself. I just became motivated since my fill. Wednesday I put on a winter coat from last year that was so tight. I zipped it up and before I left my son realized it fit with room. So now I am motivated.

I would love to hear how you all stay so motivated. Especially in the exercise department!!

I need help in that dept too. My NYE resolution was to exercise more. I dream of becoming one of those people that gets addicted to exercise but I don't think it will ever happen - lol!

I was walking a few miles a day with my dog but since the weather got cold, I've been slacking. I've been shopping for a used treadmill. I also just ordered some workout DVD's on ebay and bought some small hand weights at Walmart. I think some old fashion push ups and sit ups are in order as well. (my back and tummy are my big problem areas - stupid apple shape!)

I'm still too chicken to join a gym :help:

The biggest loser DVD volume 1 is a GREAT video. It will kick your butt, and you will most likely not get throught the whole thing your first time (or the first 5 times) but it does get better. There are 4 different workouts and Bob (the trainer from the Biggest Loser) is great and pushes you very hard. Today I am going to go get a yoga video so that that I can continue to do 2 exercise sessions on the days that I don't work. However, I can't do push ups and sit ups everytime because my abs are so sore that I could barely get out of bed. I will be doing more abs and sit ups this afternoon, but I still want some variety.

As for the gym I am to CHEAP!

Thanks

I ordered 'Walk Away the Pounds' but I've heard good things about the Biggest Loser DVD's too. I want to test out one first and see if I like it and will stick with it. *fingers crossed* (I was surprised how expensive exercise tapes are!! Even on ebay!)

I have found this Band to be a self-motivating tool. I am a professional dieter. Basically, I have gone on a major diet every year since my drastic weight gain about 12 years ago. I have managed to lose countless number of pounds over the years, and have dieted myself down to as low as a size 4.

Unfortunately every time I dieted, all the weight would go back on plus more. In 2006 I became so discouraged that I just gave up, and in 2007 my weight reached an all-time high.

All I was really missing was a tool that would guarantee me long-term success. Once it became apparent to me that this Band was actually going to work (which was after my first fill), I became highly motivated and have stayed that way ever since.

As far as the exercise, well... I really can't explain it, but I absolutely love it now. I have no idea what caused this or how it happened, but I am totally hooked on working out, so motivation is not much of an issue for me at this point in time.

A rather simple story, but there it is...................

By the way Candle, with the amount of weight you have lost, I would say that you could teach us a few things about motivation!!! :clap2::clap2::clap2:

After talking with my husband about the whole motivation idea... we decided that every 10 lbs I lost I could go buy a new MAC eyeshadow... I am addicted to their makeup and the eyeshadows are 14 dollars so it's not bad.

Tonight I am tempted to eat one of the doughnuts DH brought in yesterday. But this morning I realized that I am 100 lbs. from my goal weight. I am not eating that doughnut, because I already know it won't taste as good as being my goal weight will feel! Little things like this keep me motivated....it's a come and go deal though.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
