I'm just starting

Recommended Posts

Well I had my first visit with the Dr on December 27th. He said I was the perfect candidate for lapband. I had my bloodwork, attended one out of two support group meetings, the mandatory appts made. I have my GI workup this week and am waiting for cardiology and sleep study to call me. Hoping to get this done in March. My surgeon told me my insurance is golden. I have Anthem Blue Cross. I'm psyched and scared but sick of being fat.:help:

Hey Im just really starting too. I looked into it before, but my insurance didn't carry it then. now it does and I am going to the seminar next week, which the surgeons office told me was the first big step. I would like to have my surgery late March as well. Just in time to start losing weight for summer. =)

I live in Connecticut. My husband worked for the State so I have his coverage. Its great insurance. Someone else told me it took them a month to get the surgery. The insurance required bloodwork, sleep study, two visits to nutritionist, psych consult, cardiology consult then it gets presented to the insurance. You have to be 40% BMI without medical issues and 35% BMI with medical issues (i.e. diabetes,HTN,arthritis)

Wow it must very from state to state because my insurance only requires that I have a 40 BMI or 35 with medical issues. But I am getting a sleep study done on my own. I think a have sleep apnea and I need to get treated right away.

Hi Sharona,

I'm also having my workup. I'm having a gastroscopy tomorrow to check for any abnormalities that could be fixed the same time I have my surgery. I've had my bloods checked and I'm being banded on 15th Jan.

Good luck!

well good luck to all....I have an appt at the end of March with the doctor but my preop things are being done so quickly I'm going to change that date. I'm hoping for February date for surgery. Exciting and scarey. I'm a nurse so a little bit of knowledge is not good

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
