What a difference a few pounds can make...

Recommended Posts

I have been feeling kind of discouraged lately. I have been putting next to nothing into my body because of this liquid diet phase and the scale had been stuck for almost two weeks. I don't know if anyone else has had a similar experience but it is SO trying on your emotions and your motivation and your expectations for the band! I started questioning what I had done to myself and if this would really work for me or if it would just be another noch on my belt of failed attempts to lose weight...

But in the past three days this scale has dropped 9 pounds! NINE pounds! I know, I know, my body was in starvation mode, I was retaining Water, and all of the rest of the reasons but you can't understand that or accept that when you want to see the numbers drop...but when they finally do...it's such a great feeling! I am again excited about this band and what it's going to help me do for myself!!!

I was banded in September and I seem to lose in spurts. I can stay the same for a few weeks.... then BAM, I drop 5 or 6 pounds. I still lose this way, even though I am on solids. I know I'm not in starvation mode. I think people just lose at different rate and in different ways.

Congratulations on the weight loss. It really does make a difference in the way we feel. Good luck to you!

Put away the scale for a few days and get out a tape measure! I found when I quit losing actual pounds, the inches dropped off!!! Don't ask me how or why---I just know they did!!! I too lose in spurts. I sit with no loss, then wham 4-5 pounds go suddenly, then I sit for a week or 2 again. All in all it still come off, over 60 inches and a hundred pounds later, I still don't fully understand my body, but figure it must not be broke so I am not going to attempt to fix it!!!

Hang in there you are doing great!!!

I also think it is cool when you drop a size without losing any weight. I guess our bodies just adjust and shift fat around. The human body is truly miraculous, isn't it?

Thanks for your message. I was banded on 12/17 and have also been very strict with my liquid diet. In fact, for the first week I threw up everyday. I got on the scales yesterday, 10 days after surgery and have only lost 7 lbs. After reading how everyone drops 30 lbs in three weeks I was getting a bit discouraged. But after reading your post, I will keep on trucking!!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
