What was your pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I have noticed as I have been reading the boards that so many doctors have different requirements for their patients for pre-op diets. Tomorrow is day 10 of my 14 day liquid only diet. I can have Protein Shakes, Water, broth, and SOME chicken, tuna or turkey (very limited). I was really excited (I know this is HORRIBLE) because I am now able to eat yogart (I had a yeast infection so I 'had' to...)

I am so sad because I really want to eat at Christmas...oh well.

What was your requirements? :hungry:

Tracey, mine was pretty much Protein Shakes 2 times a day and a small meal for lunch. No sodas, Pasta, rice or stuff like that. It really got me ready for the liquid stage I had after surgery. Mine was a month long though ( self planned), not a real requirement from my doctor. I just wanted to be sure I could do it.

Good luck on the upcoming band date....Dave

I' m on the 28th also--I don't have a pre-op diet requirement--other than "don't go crazy with last supper" Just nothing to eat or drink from midnight

The only pre-op diet I had was 3 days of Clear Liquids prior to surgery. I have no idea if that was in correlation to my BMI, because I started out just under 37.

No pre op diet per se, the doc just said to try and lose some weight to shrink the liver before surgery. I did a lo fat , lo carb for 2 weeks before. Never have had a Protein Shake before surgery or after. Very thankful for that cause I know I personally would have gagged.

I've been on my all liquid 2 week pre-op requirements for 2 days now. The first day was terrible inasmuch as my blood sugar dropped dangerously low to 47. Yesterday was better, but my problem is still getting enough Protein. Because of the severe drop in blood sugar, I have not taken insulin in 24 hours and my blood sugar levels are great. My physician and my endocrinologist are consulting as to how much insulin I should take. Fun fun fun. Good luck to those having the surgery. I'm scheduled for 1/8/08.

I didn't have a pre-op diet per se. I was a BMI of 43. Was told to eat low fat, low carb diet and eat healthy for one week, and clear liquids two days before surgery. I was fine. No problems.

I was on a low carb diet before surgery. It wasn't bad.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
