March 2024 Surgery Buddies!

Recommended Posts

Just got done when my gastric bypass less than 12 hours ago. On one hand it was easier than I thought, but also on the other hand , I can't even drink one ounce at once, my new stomach hates me right now. I accidentally drank 60ml Water and felt downright nauseous. I will drink slower in the future.

Hope everyone is doing well!

I'll post more soon

My operating room is booked for 3/13 at 6:30 am for my sleeve gastrectomy. After a lot of thought and consideration over the course of a year, my first consultation to operation day was slightly less than two months. Such a whirlwind of activity!

Had mine done on March 6 and so far, so good. The surgery went well and I was up and walking while in post-op. Been on the full liquid diet since Thursday and that seems to be going fine too. I made a banana cream pie shake today and really appreciated being able to make something, though I’ll admit the straining got a little tedious.

The worst part for me was the shoulder pain due to the gas. I probably wouldn’t have taken any pain pills but took one to take the edge off the shoulder pain. It was gone the next morning anyway.

And sleeping. I almost can’t believe the amount of time I’ve spent sleeping. I’m sure it’s helping the healing but I’ve never been a napper so sleeping so much feels strange. I’m sure that will subside as well.

After seeing the Feb 2024 thread and realizing my surgery is only 6 days later, thought I’d start a thread and see if there’s anyone else scheduled in March? I’m having VSG on March 6. I’ve been planning it since last June and am very excited! Any March 2024 Buddies out there? 😀

How did your surgery go?

I'm getting RNY March 19th. I'm mildly nervous just because of anesthetics, but I feel pretty prepped for the actual surgery-related hurdles.

You're the day before me. Our time is coming up. How are you feeling?

Had my speeve done yesterday 3/5. Procedure was quick and uneventful. Woke up in recovery with no belly pain but an awful burning sensation in my chest. Nurse said this was likely trapped gas causing the pain. It has not subsided. I have been able to sleep, take liquid meds and walk a bit. I feel good about the surgery and curious how the next few days will go. I would say discomfort level is about 6/10. Not so much painful, just difficult to get comfortable. Will keep y’all posted.

Checking in to see how you feeling now?

Hi everyone. My surgery date is 3-11-24. nervous and excited at the same time. My doctor at BMI of Texas made the process very quick and easy even when dealing with Tricare Insurance. I am recommending them to anyone.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
