Good morning! I have my 6 month check up next month (its gone quickly) and I'm too impatient to wait 6 weeks to get an answer, so I decided to consult the mass of experience on these forums. My question is this:

When were you allowed to start taking capsules again? I'm tired of spending $90+ each month on chewable Multivitamins, chewable Calcium and chewable Iron supplements! Thanks in advance for sharing your wisdom!

the only chewable I was required to take for the first several months were my multis. I took chewable Calcium mostly because I liked them, and those big horse pills (i.e., calcium tablets) were hard to get down the first few weeks.

I took Vitamin B complex in capsule form starting about week 2 or 3 post-surgery, because I couldn't stand the taste of the tablets (thiamin (B1) is the worst culprit - I could taste it in the tablets...but not in the capsules).

P.S. I think it was at my six-month follow up that I was told I could start using the tablet form of multis if I wanted to.

Thank you, I'm thinking its at 6 months that we're allowed to start capsules, but I couldn't remember.

I was able to start taking all my meds from day 4 & that included multi Vitamin capsules. Took time to swallow them (thank goodness I only had a couple to take) because of the waiting between sips. I spread out when I took them too e.g. one multi vitamin in the morning & the second in the evening. And my throat was a still a little tender from the intubation breathing tube inserted during surgery for another day or so.

But surgeons have different plans & requirements. Can you email yours or ring & ask if the staff can ask your surgeon your question?

Unfortunately Vitamins are expensive regardless of whether they’re chewables, Patches, capsules or mouth sprays. Was so glad when my surgeon approved me stopping them at 8 months (I’ve a sleeve so different long term needs). I could afford to buy more shoes then LOL!

I had the sleeve surgery so not sure if same for bypass but I couldn't keep the chewables down and even the smell of them turned my stomach so I went onto the capsules early on.

I do take a chewable Calcium now as it is a raspberry Gummy one which is more like a sweet.

I was only required to take chewable vitamins the first month. I quickly switched to capsule multi’s because i couldn’t stand the taste of the chewable. I still take chewable Calcium, but that’s because they taste like starburst and the pill form is huge and plentiful. I’ve not had any issues with capsules.

I know this isn’t what this post is about , but I was taking capsules because I can’t the taste of chewable vitamins but now my stomach can’t handle it. I haven’t taken anything in a week due to fear of everything g coming up. Any brand suggestions? I’m one month post op.

Try the Bariatric Fusion soft chews. They come in multi, Iron, and Calcium. They are all the texture of a Starburst candy. I was given samples by my dietician and they were wonderful. I would have opted for them if they weren't the most expensive option. I went for just the calcium as a soft chew and did the chewable, chalky type instead for the multi and the iron to save money, but if you need a really palatable option, these are the way to go.

I was only required to use chewable vitamins the first month, after that, I switched to capsules as I couldn't stand the taste of chewables and knew that would eventually result in me not taking them. I've had no issues. I take a pill form of Calcium that is large but surprisingly easy to swallow (citirical)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
