I just officially got nervous!

Don't let her post scare you. Also, don't listen to a lot of what was said. Taking in your own medicine, without discussing with your care team, is dangerous! Everyone experiences pain differently, and it will also vary based on what surgery you're going in for. I never thought I had a high pain tolerance, but my surgery had mild to moderate pain. The majority of my pain was related to the gas they used during the procedure, and it was mainly in my shoulders. If you're in pain in the hospital, ask for relief. My post op pain has been solely related to my 6 incision sites, (especially the port they pulled out my stomach), and nothing else. Good luck with your surgery!

I just had the second procedure in my bariatric revision. The procedure is called Endoscopy with Argon Plasma Coagulation. Basically they go down my esophagus to the top opening of the pouch and zap it. It causes scar tissue, which makes the opening smaller, which means my stomach can’t accept as much food. I lost 40 pounds with the first procedure, which my surgeon said was great. I think I’m going to try some of the clear Liquid Protein that BP sells. I also use Atkins shakes, especially the chocolates and the mocha latte.

Had surgery on Wednesday (8/16). I think I’m doing well but it really has been a challenge getting Water and broth down. I am still not hungry or thirsty at all.

I just had gastric sleeve yesterday. Sipping Water and tried some Jello. I can do small sips, so happy with that. Hoping to be discharged in the next hour.

Congratulations and welcome to the losers bench. This is quite normal as I had surgery on August 3 and couldn’t get much of any fluids in me including Protein. It’s get better each day just remember to take small sips. Best of luck to you

Hi All!

I had sleeve surgery on Wed, 8/16, and am doing well. There is some pain from the incision were they pulled the stomach out, but the smaller incisions are not really bothersome. I took 2 slow walks around the block yesterday (helps avoid blood clot problems), which went well. I am definitely not up to big things, though and taking it slowly. My main bothersome thing is all the gas! Burping and bloating. I'm hoping the movement will help push this out, too. Last night I had my first non-clear Protein Drink (had been drinking Prem. Pro. Clear, in peach). I am taking all chewable and rapid dissolving Vitamins, and am tolerating them all. I am taking Tylenol, ibuprofen and gabapentin for the pain, and that seems to be keeping it under control. Still, there are certain positions and activities that give me more discomfort - bending over is not good yet. Anyway, at 2 days post surgery, I think I am doing well. I am still having to remind myself to SIP fluids, as larger mouthfuls cause gas retribution. However, this is what I wanted - organic control over how much I ingest. I am sure this will work out, and all be worth it in the end. Good Luck to all! 🙂

It’s going to be difficult to get the recommended amounts of fluids at first, and having a reduced appetite doesn’t help. It will get better. The surgical area needs to heal. Did your surgeon tell you that it will be difficult to get the recommended amounts in at first? Also, drinking Protein will help the healing process.

I had a pretty rough go. I actually ended up back in the hospital after being discharged because they gave me the wrong pain medication. The pain medication they had been giving me (hydrocodone) doesn’t do anything at all for me. I kept telling them that but they kept using it and then promised that they would send me home with oxycodone and didn’t. So at three in the morning I had to go to the ER and be readmitted. It was excruciatingly painful when I was not on pain meds that were effective. Mostly the gas in my upper shoulders was the painful part. I had a hiatal hernia repair and a bypass.

My doctor was not fantastic, I did not necessarily need to be readmitted to the hospital. I really just needed the correct prescription. But he wanted me in there so he could watch me, or for some other reason? He seemed very angry with me.

I will say this. I wish I had known that it could be that painful. I would’ve been able to more completely prepare myself and be more accepting of the pain if I knew it was coming. That’s why I’m mentioning it to you all, not to scare anyone but just so you can get ready in case you are one of the people that it hurts. It clearly doesn’t hurt everyone.

As for me, I’ve had two spinal cord surgeries that were less painful than this one. So everyone has a different experience, but mine was not fantastic. That said, I feel ok now and am home, doing well.

Good luck, all.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
