Well, I ran into my first food intolerance with my sleeve Gastrectomy...fml. My stomach can't stand Bacon. I can live without bacon, and my Surgical team did warn me I might not be able to eat bacon, but this is so far the first and only intolerance I have.

Is anyone else feeling cold during the first 2 weeks of recovery? My wife loves to keep our house around 65*, and I'm wearing pants, socks, shoes, and a sweatshirt at home, and I'm still freezing. It's odd for me, as I was always the one who was hot. I would normally just wear a t-shirt and shorts and still be hot before. I'm about to go for a quick walk to try to warm up.

Seriously! I thought there was something wrong with me, too! I have been cold since my surgery in 8/17. Glad to know I’m not the only one.

I’m a very hot natured person and normally keep our house between 63-69 depending on the time of year but since the surgery I have been cold! I mean like keeping one air unit set on 72-74 and the other unit on 70 or more and my husband is grateful and shocked. I’m actually happy bc it could save us money but I asked my dr and he checked my thyroid again. I got the results and it said my T3 was low but not sure what that means yet bc I don’t go back until next month.
Being in the south where it’s been hot as hell for much of the summer I need only walk outside to warm up so there’s that.
I’m curious if this is common as well

I had my surgery yesterday (8/22) with minimal pain. The worst part of this is the trapped gas. It was extremely difficult to sleep at night because the gas pain was so bad. I had to walk around my apartment complex to get enough relief to go to sleep. Overall I'm doing pretty well

Apparently you have had some issues with medical pros in your lifetime as well. Unfortunately, in many communities drug use is such a problem that drs & nurses look at everyone as a junkie if you are in chronic pain. The sad reality is that so many people have major injuries that cause them to be in long term pain that necessitate pain medication that the numbers seem really high. I've personally been in 5 car wrecks, 3 times I was rear ended while sitting at a red light! For a dr or nurse to tell me I don't need my pain meds or to withhold them until they think I deserve them like a dog who is sitting up for a treat is demeaning and unethical.
Like I said, I'm not saying everyone should ignore their dr orders but if you have issues, you might not want to be caught unprepared because while there are some truly AMAZING and WONDERFUL med pros out there, there are quite a few of them who have no business being in the caring profession. I had gastric sleeve on Thursday. The first few hours after were rough, but by discharge on Friday morning I was feeling much better. Today, my body started expelling all the gas and I was immediately rid of the bloating and mild pain when sipping water. I’m walking around just fine. The only issue is a bit of lingering pain in the larger stapled hole on my left side. Everything else is good. I sipped on some broth and am not having trouble sipping water frequently.
I have to admit, I am in less pain than I thought at this early point. Hope everyone else is seeing strong improvements!

Had surgery on Wednesday (8/16). I think I’m doing well but it really has been a challenge getting water and broth down. I am still not hungry or thirsty at all.

I just had gastric sleeve yesterday. Sipping water and tried some jello. I can do small sips, so happy with that. Hoping to be discharged in the next hour.

I had sleeve surgery on Wed, 8/16, and am doing well. There is some pain from the incision were they pulled the stomach out, but the smaller incisions are not really bothersome. I took 2 slow walks around the block yesterday (helps avoid blood clot problems), which went well. I am definitely not up to big things, though and taking it slowly. My main bothersome thing is all the gas! Burping and bloating. I'm hoping the movement will help push this out, too. Last night I had my first non-clear protein drink (had been drinking Prem. Pro. Clear, in peach). I am taking all chewable and rapid dissolving vitamins, and am tolerating them all. I am taking Tylenol, ibuprofen and gabapentin for the pain, and that seems to be keeping it under control. Still, there are certain positions and activities that give me more discomfort - bending over is not good yet. Anyway, at 2 days post surgery, I think I am doing well. I am still having to remind myself to SIP fluids, as larger mouthfuls cause gas retribution. However, this is what I wanted - organic control over how much I ingest. I am sure this will work out, and all be worth it in the end. Good Luck to all! ?

Don't let her post scare you. Also, don't listen to a lot of what was said. Taking in your own medicine, without discussing with your care team, is dangerous! Everyone experiences pain differently, and it will also vary based on what surgery you're going in for. I never thought I had a high pain tolerance, but my surgery had mild to moderate pain. The majority of my pain was related to the gas they used during the procedure, and it was mainly in my shoulders. If you're in pain in the hospital, ask for relief. My post op pain has been solely related to my 6 incision sites, (especially the port they pulled out my stomach), and nothing else. Good luck with your surgery!

Hello all, checking in here from Vermont. I'm 4 days post op (August 10th at Dartmouth Hitchcock) on a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. Happy to report only mild to moderate pain, and not having any problems drinking all of my fluids. If anyone has any questions regarding the first few days/nights, let me know!
