My bypass surgery was 2/14 and I thought my hunger was supposed to supress after surgery but I am always hungry. And before you say it not head hungry. I know what that is like. I am talking real hunger. The kind where I just want food... any food. Unfortunately when it comes to meals I still can only take about 4 bites before I am full... momentarily. Then an hour or so later I am back to being hungry. What gives?

My hunger was never suppressed either. The day I came home from the hospital my stomach was growling. Same thing, I would get full super fast and be hungry like an hour later. I was so afraid I wouldn't be successful because of how it started out, but less than 18 months later I've lost 140 pounds and hit my goal. You'll find the hunger gets less intense as time goes on, just pay close attention to your body's signals to make sure it doesn't turn into grazing. Focus on Protein and Water.

Basically all I eat is Protein lol.

I think it is because we eat so little after RNY, and our body requires a certain calorie level. As you said, 4 bites, full. How many calories are you consuming a day?

I still eat every 2 to 3 hrs when awake but it didn't hamper my weightloss at all; and in maintenance, if I don't eat every few hours, I would never get to my maintenance calorie level.

I like you felt hungry after surgery, and since I started working out hungrier sooner. Prior to surgery I was like that too, get full fast but hungry often.

What I found has help is sticking to an eating schedule, your body gets used to it. I start feeling hungry about 30min or so prior to my eating time which reminds me to stop my fluids to eat. If its before then if i sip some Protein Shake that helps a lot.

My hunger hasn't stopped either, I was hoping it would. I'm at my 3rd week and sure enough have not lost in a few days, actually gained a couple of pounds. I know it's expected so I won't worry yet 😕 I have not had any issues with anything I have tried to eat, tastes haven't changed. I usually eat anywhere between 600-800 a day depending what I have. I am concentrating on Protein and eat about every 2.5 hours per what my Dr. has said.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
