Did I eat too much?

Recommended Posts

I’m just about 3 months post op. I’ve been eating about 4 oz per meal and losing pretty well. Tonight I had a frozen meal - it was an Amy’s cheese Enchilada Meals - with Beans and corn. I ate the whole meal. I didn’t feel overly full and when I recorded it (I track my protein) it was almost 9 ounces!!! How did I even eat that much?! Terrified I stretched my pouch or something - though I really didn’t feel overly full!

You won't permanently stretch out your pouch over one meal. It takes overeating repeatedly over time.

Also keep in mind that ounces of Protein is a measurement of their weight, not volume. While 4 ounces of most meats will be about the same size, the 4 ounce rule doesn't apply to other things. The only thing where we generally use ounces as a volume measurement is liquid ounces.

It takes 2 years of consistent over eating to stretch a pouch. Chances ore if you ate too much you would feel uncomfortable. You will be okay.

I think some of us imagine after surgery we will only ever be able to eat a few mouth fulls at a time but the reality is you should be able to eat a normal serving something and I don't mean the giant portions you when eating out. So eating a serving of a frozen meal is considered a normal size serving

This.

Some people have weird expectations in the long run. However, sometimes I think their surgeons even fuel that expectation or at least they do nothing to combat that (false) expectation.

Dr. Weiner has an interesting video about growing portion sizes on YT. Interesting chart at about 1:30 min

It also sheds some light on the often poor results in regards to weight loss after revision surgery (exception seems to be band to bypass; these patients often seem to have good results).

Nah… one meal won’t stretch you. Some foods just go down, settle and digest quicker than others. If a food settles too easily I will tread carefully as I don’t want to fall back into bad habits

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
