This is not the case. NSAIDs don't increase the risk of ulcers because they go through your stomach and irritate it directly. They work, in part, by blocking an enzyme called Cox-1, which is required for your stomach to produce its protective mucus lining. Less lining, greater risk of ulcer. Injectable NSAIDs do this the same as oral ones.

If you can't find any other alternatives that work, there are prescription NSAIDs called Cox-2 inhibitors which don't do that. They might be an option if you take them with another drug to reduce the risk of ulcer, but I haven't found any research in the long-term use of these meds after bariatric surgery. (As in, there's a single study where they used celecoxib peri-operatively for pain control was published in 2019 and that's the sum total of PubMed results.)

Well unfortunately the sciatica issue returned and my surgeon said the injections were okay so I got them this time. They didn’t do anything for the pain, really though so I won’t be using them again anyways I don’t think. Unless they decrease the time it takes to recover or something which so far doesn’t seem to be the case. I’m only on day three though, and last time it took almost three weeks to go away entirely. I have an appointment with my family dr on Wednesday though and Intend to ask about pain management. I will ask about these alternative NSAIDS.

I just found something for my back pain that I’m pretty sure could be worn backwards to help with menstrual pain as well. It’s a waist band made of neoprene with a pocket and it comes with two gel inserts that can be either used hot or cold so you can keep one in freezer and microwave the other for heat. It fits well under comfy clothes when worn on the back. I tried it on the front and it’s a little more bulky looking but it still fits. I was thinking that the heat may not last very long but I guess cause it’s so close to your body it has stayed warm for a while and to recharge it you just pop it in the microwave for a few more seconds. The only negative thing I can say is that it only fits up to 46” and it could’ve so easily been made longer with a little more Velcro to fit more people

oops forgot the link. Limited-time deal: Magic Gel Ice Pack for Back Pain Relief | 2 Pack Lower Back Gel Pack Wrap for Hot or Cold Therapy | Relief for Lower Lumbar, Sciatic Nerve, Herniated or Degenerative Disc, Coccyx, Tailbone Pain https://a.co/d/b8Sx35T

I’ve had good luck with topical meds. Things like topical lidocaine, icy hot, topical CBD in balm or bath salts. I’ve been trying to cut my reliance and intake of oral NSAIDs. There are muscle Patches like tiger balm can also help. Also there are some studies that indicate things like magnesium help (discuss with your Dr).

Does lidocaine actually help you with acute pain or does it just help heal things faster. I used the icy hot brand lidocaine 4% and it felt like it was helping so when the dr said they had 5% prescription ones I figured the more the better but they don’t feel like they are doing anything really. I wonder if it’s because they don’t have a second ingredient (menthol I think it was). In all fairness I am almost better at this point so maybe it’s just not helping cause the pain is less?? Heat and tens seem to be the trick right now.

Wondering how other people manage period pain after surgery.
Before surgery, I would use iBuprofen and that worked perfectly. I would take a couple and it would completely get rid of my pain. Cramps, back aches, discomfort. All gone.
Now, after surgery, I'm not allowed to take it anymore, so I tried Tylenol and it simply doesn't work as well for me when it comes to managing period pain.
Are there any other options?

I had an abalation done on June 2022, i couldn't stand the pain and the looong 7 days. Now i get 3 days of spotting and no pain.

I have EXTREME period pain due to endometriosis. I take CBD pills for the pain now and it works better than ibprofin, etc. ever did. CBD has also not had an effect on my appetite. I know it depends on what state you're in if it's even an option

Very interesting. I might have to give that a try.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
