Exploring Options for Sleeve to Bypass in Mexico

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about doing this surgery in Mexico. However, I don't think my husband is going to go for this process. Our concerns are safety, post-op, and covid. I'm not even sure if this is the right move, but I'm just looking at all of my options. $16k for a sleeve to bypass is a bit much for me to pay out of pocket in the states. So, for me the main driver is cost. My other option is to do the VSG to ESG which costs $11,995 in GA. I guess you can say cost is my driving factor right now because I really want to get this done. I need a second chance. By the way, I never been to Mexico, I don't have a passport (I'm probably the only adult who doesn't have one LOL), I never had covid, I'm vaccinated and boosted. Any help is appreciated.

I had VSG in Mx. with Dr. Illan. You can look at my previous posts for details, but I do know he does a ton of VSG to RNY/MGB revisions. I had a phenomenal experience and would absolutely HIGHLY recommend HospitalBC for anyone considering Medical Tourism. Don't let the US scare machine dissuade you.

Thanks so much! I'll take a look at it. 🙂

As a side note, HospitalBC followed ALL US Covid precautions (better than most places here) and a passport is not required to cross back into the US on foot or by car. I also do not have one, so I took my birth certificate, SS card, marriage license, and drivers license and didn't have a bit of trouble. The bariatric hospitals in Mx. do this half a dozen times a day, so they will literally walk you through every single step. Tijuana is immediately across the border from San Diego, and HospitalBC is all of 20min of the SD airport. You really don't even feel like you're in another country.

It sounds like you DO need a passport if you're planning to arrive in Mexico via air (I know the rules for entering Canada and Mexico have changed in recent years - used to be you didn't need a passport to enter either one)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
