Yea if you mean cravings, I absolutely have them. For me it’s usually when I am board or emotional. I try to have lots of healthy Snacks on hand at all times because of this. Even if I am going out only for a short while I will still pack a couple healthy choices in my cooler. I find that I am less likely to give In to the craving if I get to have something at least.

I have had some cravings pop up but so far it’s been manageable. I’m in the final 36 hours of my post op liquid and counting down until I start purée on Wednesday. I’m hoping that brings a little more variety and distracts me some.

The surgery only removes part of your tummy not the part of your brain where cravings originate unfortunately. They’re always there. We just have to recognise them for what they are & what may be behind the craving like seeking something to sooth & comfort you, stress, anger, etc. Then work out how to manage them. You had your surgery a couple of years ago didn’t you? So maybe these craving are from some old issues you never really dealt with.

Find something to distract yourself or look for a healthier alternative. I don’t crave anything very often. Never a specific food but a flavour (i.e. salty, sweet, bitter, sour, umami). If I want salt I might have 4 or 5 salted macadamias or roll a wedge of cucumber in salt. If you want sweet try a little fruit.

I am withdrawling carbination alcohol

I don’t drink alcohol (family history of addiction is too high for me to consider it). That being said I would be careful because alcohol can become a transfer addiction in some after WLS, especially if they’re predisposed to addictive traits (ie. binge eating or disordered eating habits). If you do decide to imbibe, do so carefully.

I was never off limits as far as carbonation is concerned. My surgeon office said that it’s a personal choice and some find it very uncomfortable afterwards. However I do realize it’s different practice for different surgeons.

I have craved very specific things. pizza Huts Pan Meatlovers Pizza(life long favorite) , macaroni with cheese and hot dogs. BBQ wings (was able to make that healthy and 12 were worth a few meals),etc., things like that. Of course I told myself no and probably always will because it's likely I'd make myself sick if I did get ahold of them. I don't know that I would have the willpower to only have 1 slice of pizza or 1 donut from Krispey Kreme even knowing i have a much smaller stomach now so I won't allow myself any not to mention the risk of dumping!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
