Diarrhoea isn’t uncommon but you seem to be experiencing more than most. Glad you’ve hit in touch with your surgeon. Try some Imodium in the meantime. It was on my list of over the counter meds to have on hand post surgery in case of diarrhoea.

Wonder if you have could have developed a temporary intolerance to lactose. It happens. May be worth giving some lactose free or plant based Protein Shakes & powder a try instead of the traditional lactose based shakes.

I had Constipation for the first few days, then once I got through that i had HORRIBLE diarrhea for about 2 weeks. Maybe not as bad as you describe, but every time I "ate" or drank a shake I was in the bathroom within 30 minutes. After that, I am as normal as I can imagine (after 10++ years of constipation issues). I go just about daily and I do not take ANY supplements to help.

I agree with Arabesque - my first thought was lactose intolerance - or maybe an intolerance to an artificial sweetener. Neither is uncommon....

I had my surgery July 6 and I was the same way for the first like 2 1/2 weeks. I could barely make it to the bathroom. But I still have a few episodes if something doesn't settle right with my stomach but it's not near as bad as it was. Hope yours get better soon.

I recommend a stool softener combined with Benefiber(I use the Walmart generic). I went from very difficult bms every 4-5 days to much "easier" bms everyday.

I had the same problem right after surgery for two and a half weeks. It sucks and I'm sorry your going through it Dr blamed it on a bug but everything tested normal. I ended up getting a banana bag and postassium because I couldn't keep anything in.

Hi did the diarrhea ever clear for you? I’m 5 days post op from gastric bypass and having the exact same symptoms. It’s horrible and this is my absolute fear it won’t go away. Thanks for sharing.

It did after two and a half weeks. It was hell but as soon as it went away I got stronger everyday. I also couldn't handle Protein Shakes and dairy for a couple months. I believe at month 3 I was able to do dairy again and small increments. And now I'm just able to enjoy Protein shakes again which is a huge help because I wasn't able to get my protein post surgery for the longest time. I still can't have a ton of them but I can handle them again. Are you having any other symptoms??

I had the runs also for the first week or so. It is incredible the amount that exited compared to inputs. But it did get better and if you are worried call you nutritionist or surgery team nurse. I'm sure they will be able to better help you. Never be shy with asking them for help it is what they are there for. Hope you find better days ahead. Wishing you good health and success in you weight loss journey.

Today I had a bit of loose stool. Not too bad but not the norm. I did take extra benefiber, and haven't added anything different so I came to look at this site to see- since I have been pretty much eating the exact same things for two to three weeks- and my yogurt has one of things you listed as sugar alcohol <1g I didn't see it as an issue. Maybe it's that or something else. I'm thinking I should drink some extra fluids to compensate.

Scared but excited.

Reading labels and becoming a ninja at ingredient understanding is my new thing. Yougert should just be active bacterial culture and milk. Nothing else. Any additional thing is just filler. I have and try to make my own with my one pot. It is so easy it is ridiculous . And will add some chopped fruit or some of my Protein Powder to it when I take a portion.

Reading deceptive packing is important and will make you a more effective fat burning machine . Wishing you continued success.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
