October 2022 surgery support

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! My gastric bypass is scheduled for 10th of October. I have been on a waiting list since 15th of February 2021. I got all pre op check ups done last year, but had final check up before surgery 2 weeks ago (nutritionist, anesthesiologist and bloodwork). All was in place.

But then my bloodwork came back really bad. I have developed anemia and its severe enough they called my in to have IV transfusion plus taking extra Iron supplements with my pre op Vitamins.

Have new blood draw scheduled on 4th, so hope things improve enough to get approved.

My BMI is 50 so already had to start my liver shrinking pre-op diet, 3 week before surgery.

Yaaayyy!!! I have to start the liquid diet September 28th but I have to do a 3 week liquid diet. How long is yours? I know some people are only doing 2 weeks.

Lucky you for only getting a 10 day liquid diet (jealous some 😂). My anxiety kicked in during my last check in when they told me they were submitting everything to insurance 😩 I think it’s more so of a good and anxious nerve than fear. I’m anticipating the outcome more than anything. I have scheduled an appointment with my therapist 1 week before surgery for extra support with my anxiety. What are you mostly nervous about?

Multivitamins, try BariMelts. Bariatric Advantage orange is not that great. Well it is better if you don’t chew and just let it slowly dissolve. My dr did advise can use Flintstone as well.

Bariatric Advantage calcium chews are good but later I will switch to the CVS brand after I heal up and see how things are tolerated.

Barimelts Vd3. B12. Biotin.< br />
Premier Protein. coffee one is not good, it has caffeine. Want to avoid caffeine after surgery.

Try premier Protein cake batter, Peanut Butter cup, Carmel, rootbeer is okay. I hear pumpkin spice was good.

muscle milk zero sugar vanilla, Chocolate and strawberry (they are less sweet than premier vanilla chocolate and strawberry)

Also use bariatric Advantage Fiber.
Vital Proteins non flavor.

Also you can sugar free sauces G Hughes sugar feee sauce, skinny girl dressing, and Jordan’s skinny syrups are good as well. I like use the syrups in the shakes. Like a mocha premiers chocolate shake, or I can caramel. Or to a Carmel shake I can add vanilla Syrup. Also syrups are good in black Decaf coffee with 1 pack if stevia.

Light cheese string, i buy the Walmart brand but I think it taste better at room temperature

Just know after surgery, your hormones will change and so will your taste buds.

Congrats to all my October buddies. My surgery date is October 3rd. I started my pre-op liquid diet yesterday and it seems surprisingly easy. I do wonder how I will feel about it next week though. I am isolated in my daily life. I am over 50, single with no kids at home or nearby, I work from home and live in a suburban area that is mostly made up of families and traveling plant workers and I don't know anyone - no support system in place. Who else is going through this completely alone? I am arranging paid transportation to the med center and a paid medical transport to bring me home following the procedure. For those of you who have had to go through this by yourself, did you feel able to manage alone post-op? What was the most difficult thing?

I'm sort of in a similar position, I do have a few family members 20+ min away but my dad is fighting a 15 year battle with chronic lymphatic leukemia and my mom is taking care of her older sister with alzheimers so basically an adult sized toddler. So I avoid asking either of them for anything. I have 1 daughter who just had a baby so don't ask her either other than to bring the baby to me to snuggle which helps a lot when im having a rough day but otherwise I'm disabled and stay home alone most of the time. I can definitely relate on the lack of a support system. I'm having a tough time getting enough Protein and drinking more on top of that. They want me on 80-100 grams of protein a day and so far 65g is as much as I've gotten and barely drank anything else. Not having any food at all is tough. I bought a ninja creami and have started freezing the fruit flavored clear protein and making it into sorbet so I feel like im actually eating something, next will be the chocolate one, I hope its like chocolate ice cream if so I think I'll have a much easier time tricking myself into getting the whole 80-100g in plus some more zero Gatorade on top of that. I'm often online not sure how but if it's possible to message me on here if you ever need a buddy to talk to id be happy to chat.

Need some help on Multivitamins anything that you recommend. Oh trying Protein ready to drink shakes, Muscle max is so sweet tried coffee Premier Protein shake ok on ice any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Glucerna hunger smart chocolate is the one I've tolerated best and tastes the best to me. I'm lactose intolerant so I didn't have many choices from the list the dr gave me but I'm so glad to have found the glucerna I've bought about 15 6 packs lol don't try the powder of it tho, it's disgusting! I got some of the syntax nectar ones and they aren't too bad, haven't tried them all yet tho. But if you hate milky stuff like me the nectar ones I was very happy to find.

I joined a support group and was warned not to stock up on Protein Shakes before surgery as your tastes change for a few months after. People often stock up on what they like and then hate it once the surgery has been done. I was able to order a bunch of sample packets which i plan to try when i get home, then i can order what I like at that time. (im in Europe where the ready made shakes are not as plentiful or varied so making my own will be my go to.) So far Celebrate Vitamins and Bariatric fusion have been good. Bariatric fusion will even send you a free sample kit of their multivitamins both chew and chewable tablet as well as Calcium

chews!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
