Surgeries The Week Of December 17

Recommended Posts

I was told to stay from veggies like brocolli, and those that are gassy, (don't want to stretch the pouch) and also to stay away from bread. It has too many carbs, and it is sometime hard to digest becaue it doughy. That's what the dietician told me.

I was banded on 12/22 and have some questions.

Does anyone know what veggies are good after the liquid and mushy stages are over?

Can I eat bread, cheese, baked chips?

Thanks!

I'm sure your Dr. gave you a list of post op food restrictions and recommendations. If not you should ask them at your first visit.

Every Dr. has a different method. For me it was Clear liquids the first weeks with a clear Protein drink ( I used Isopure clear Protein 40 gm of protein in one bottle) to get in all the protein requirements.

2nd week was "FULL" liquids. Thicker liquids like Protein shakes. I used Atkins Protein Shakes , 15 gms of protein, Tomato Soup, yogurt, broth.

3rd week was pureed food Like baby food consistency. I hate that texture, so I stayed on the full liquids a little longer and added scrambled eggs.

soft Food 4th week. Ground turkey, canned tuna, I added some broth with very soft carrotts that I mashed, small amounts of mashed potatoes, soft green Beans. I was told to avoid gassy veggies for a while.

As you get to each new stage and want to try a new food, you should try a very small piece and chew it very well. But if you want to continue to lose you need to limit your carbs and aim for protein choices.

Once you know what goes down ok, the whole thing can change when you get your first "fill". And you will start the process all over again. This will continue for several rounds of "fills" until you reach the proper restriction ( different for everyone). And your diet after each fill will be restricted for several days. ( Usually a day or two of liquids followed by a day or two of soft foods).

If you haven't yet, you should read the post under Surgery and FAQ by Wendell. It explains "fills" very well and will give you a better idea of what's ahead.

Good Luck. I'm still learning too as I am a newbie on my own journey.

Thanks for all your help. No, I don't feel that my DR. was as informative. Going to see him today and have a laundry list of questions.

Bakes chips in a few months???

Well I am exactly 1 week post-op today. Everyone keeps asking was it worth it. I told them to re-ask me that in a month. Been online all day trying to find Liquid Protein (my hair is shot to hell, shedding bad). I am feeling ok as far as pain, there is some but not enough to even take any pain medication. My doctor told me liquids for a month (Dang). Well I have been doing ok with the liquids but have to admit that I have eaten a pack of instant (watery grits) starting on day 4 post-op. How is everyone else doing? Any ideas for a good source of Protein (slim fast only has 10 grams a drink).

Isopure clear Protein Drink has 40 gms and about 160 calories in one bottle. If you can drink 1 a day you're about 2/3 done for protein. Add one Atkins shake a day and you're at 55 gms.

you can find the Atkins shakes almost anywhere, supermarkets, pharmacies, Wholesale food chains like BJ's. The Isopure we bought at GNC nutrition stores or Vitamin Shoppe.

I was banded on 12/19 as well and I feel like a burning sensation right under my breast area is. I believe that is where the port is, but it feels weired too. Just curious where are you from?

I was banded on 12/17, and I feel good. I do get an occasional burning pain under my left breast as well, that's where my port is. As far as diet, I am starting to eat mushies, even though my follow up surgeon visit is next week. This liquid diet is getting old.

You are right liquids would be getting old. My coach started me on mushies after 2 weeks. The hard part for me is the carbs and my Diabetes. I am trying to eat more Protein. I eat alot of Soup, Progresso, takes awhile to eat it, but low in calories. I have very few problems and hope I have not caused any problems. I usually don't get full but sometimes can only eat a little. It's great to talk to people who had surgery at the same time.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
