Dr. Deol's patients come in!

Recommended Posts

Hey gang! I missed you all last night! I was the ONLY ONE who showed up for the meeting! I guess if the same thing happens in January, then the meetings are officially canceled. So, please come!

Anyway, I would love to still have a regular get-together after our meeting run out (whether that is sooner or later). If you are interested, send me a private message with your contact info and I will work on organizing that when the time comes.

Maria

I tried to make it to the meeting Thursday. I sat in traffic on I-696 for 45 minutes before saying the heck with it. I was still in traffic at 7:00 and there was no end in to the tail lights in sight. I would have missed half the meeting by the time I found an alternate route. Sorry you were the only one there.

I've started going to my new doc. He seems knowledgeable, but he's no Dr. Deol. I miss her wonderful personality! Having a hard time with the holidays. I needed the meeting!

Hi Marilyn! You are going to Dr. Krause right? I think I'm going to see him as well. I'm having a hell of a time getting through to the office though. I've left two messages and still have not received a call back. Frustrating!

Actually, I decided to go to out to Port Huron. It's a bit of a drive, but I've heard great things about them. I live only 3 miles from the ones in St. Clair Shores, but I haven't heard anything good about them. I don't think I'm ready for a fill yet, but the Docs in PH want to see me every month for the first year. That's fine with me. It keeps me on track. Keep in touch. Good luck with Royal Oak.

I've seen lots of good comments about them too. Good luck! I finally got through to Dr. Krause's office (I'm so impatient! haha!), and I have an appointment for January. I feel so much better ;)

WOW, I'm not going to complain about my 1 hour drive! I have Dr. Bhesania also. I miss Dr. Deol's personality and warmth, but hopefully with time, Dr. B will grow on me. His expertise is what's most important to me anyway.

Hi Everyone!

I hope you dont' mind me dropping in but I too, was also a patient of Dr. Deol and I already miss her!

I live in the East Lansing area and found a wonderful doctor named Dr. Kemmeter in Grand Rapids if anyone is local to the area...

Did anyone else have a hard time trying to find a new lap-band doctor? I did!

I did. I called every bariatric group within a 100 mile radius of Gregory, including Grand Rapids cause my daughter lives there. I found 5 willing to do fills for outside patients.....out of about 30.

i called Ann Arbor (U of M) and they haven't even STARTED to offer the lap-band and they don't take outside patients, the ones in lansing never called me back, and dr. nathan tomita well i saw him twice and both times he treated me like i was an idiot and the last time said TO MY FACE " are you sure dr. deol left? it wasn't that you were difficult? " I wanted to smack him...so I fished people for information on livejournal.com and obesityhelp.com and someone referred me to mmpc weight loss center....i met dr. paul kemmeter and he's wonderful!

next week i'm getting my band deflated because i'm going over-seas for a month and even though i've had it for over year I'm still weary....when i got overseas

oh and does anyone know when Dr. Deol's new office was opening up?

Hi ebarto01 I'm new to the site. I also had Dr. Doel and I need to find a new doc.I see you are in the Gregory area. I'm in the Stockbridge area. How long does it take you to get to Grand Rapids? Glad you found a nice doctor. That is my big worry. What if I don't like them or they are jerks. Thanks

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
