I’m 3 weeks PO and I have the worst gas ever now and can’t trust my farts. I also have the runs every day. Maybe it’s from the mushy food or liquids idk. Is this normal?

I believe it is very normal as the first rule that I picked up on this forum was never trust a fart. Many people have had accidents and one poor lady soiled herself in a store. You must be feeling worn out.

I think you maybe having intolerances to the sugars in your Protein shakes or milk. Some people become lactose intolerant after surgery. I think contacting your team would be a good idea. If its just the mushy food or the amount of liquid we have to take it will improve as soon as you get on to more normal foods. I hope you get better soon

I had the runs and gas and bloating also couldn't trust my facts fir the first probably month and a half but I was also on the liquid and puree diet longer than most. But it got better when I could eat actual food except I'm still pretty burpy and I get bloated sometimes overall I feel good.

Although it’s not as common as Constipation this is not the first time I have heard of this. I am not sure if you can take something such as immodium?? I would contact my team to be sure. You can definitely try gas ex for the gas and heating pads some say help as well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
