I start my liquid diet today. I hope I can do this.

You got this!!

I’m starting day 4 (of 8) today and honestly, so far so good. I haven’t really felt hungry… the Protein Drinks from my plan have kept me satisfied. I’ve made my Water goals every day. Head hunger is real - but manageable. If I had one “complaint” it’s the constant waking at night to go to the bathroom, but if I get my liquids in early enough - it’s manageable.

Best of luck!

My surgery is a week from tomorrow! Two months ago when I got my surgery date it seemed like it would never get here, and now I'm rushing around making sure I have everything ready :) I can't wait!

You totally can!! 🤗 I’m on day 4. First 3 really were the hardest, but I keep reminding myself why I wanted this! When you get hungry drink Water and focus on doing something to take your mind off of it or taking a nap, if you can!! Good luck.

Thanks! Good luck to you too.

My surgery is also a week from tomorrow! Hooray. So close and yet I feel like this time is going to go so slowly. I am excited also.

7 days in to the pre-op liquid diet and one week until surgery. I can do this! Now that the caffeine headache withdrawal is gone, it's much easier to tolerate the diet. I think I have decided not to go back to coffee in the mornings once I can simply because of the awful experience I had with the withdrawals. I only consume one cup in the mornings and I don't wish to go through that again! So instead I think I'm going to start warming up a Protein Drink or switch to KaCahva or herbal tea or something else that does not have the addicting caffeine. Believe me, I love coffee, but I sure did not love learning how dependent I was on it. One more thing to adjust into my new lifestyle for a healthier me :) Has anyone else tried that new KaChava drink to replace coffee? Would love to know what you think about it!

Yes. You 100% have this. I haven't tried KaChava, but it sounds like a good plan.

I have not tried kachava, but I never was a big coffee drinker. I was a diet coke addict. 4 months ago when I started this process I was told to lay off the diet coke. I drank about 10 to 12 cans a day. It was literally the only liquid I would drink. Now I drink crystal light or herbal teas. I do allow myself one cup of regular tea in the am. I am trying to get off that too. The herbal teas are nice I think. Lemon zinger is one of my favorites. I think those are a good choice simply because of the many flavors. It is hard for me to drink straight Water unless I'm super thirsty. I need flavors.

I was a big diet soda drinker, too. I wish I could have herbal tea or something, but we're not allowed caffeine after surgery. And we don't have crystal light over here. So I'm drinking mostly Water and some gatorade, but I feel the gatorade makes my heartburn worse, so I drank less of it today.. I've also had some broth, which is ok but it makes me hungry.

I'm also allowed Protein drinks, but the ones I have are kind of gross. I did make some sugarfree Jello yesterday, and I'm trying to have a few teaspoons of it here and there, but I don't love it. I am so ready for this part of the liquid diet to be over. Right now I'm dreaming of oatmeal, which I will be allowed to have next week. This liquid diet is hard.

Most herbal teas don't have caffeine since they are not made from tea leaves. You should check them out. I also buy rooibos tea which has no caffeine either.

So today is my surgery, in fact waiting to be call to go to the pre-op area. My siblings, aunt, coworkers and friends have texted/called to tell me not to be anxious, and sincerely right now I'm in a incredible state of mind. Dunno if the moment when I have to physically go to the pre-op and get my IV I'll get nervous. It brings me peace that my best friend is working today and has a surgery next to my OR and is gonna be there, and that another friend ( anesthesiologist) is going to be there too. The hospital, the surgeon and most of the staff around knows from the time I used to work there, so I trust blindy in them.
Right now the only thing I'm thinking is in having the biggest, coldest glass of Water you can imagine.

Hi Everyone, I was posting over in the RNY August thread, but it doesn't seem to be very active. I had my surgery on Tuesday, so today is my Day 3 Post Op. The surgery & hospital stay went very well, but I had a rough first day at home yesterday. I think it was mostly because I no longer had the IV for hydration and it takes forever to drink enough Water on your own.

The barium swallow test at the hospital was pretty gross. Plus, it didn't move very fast through my bowels so I was sitting around for like an hour while they kept trying the x-ray; they finally sent me back up to my room and had a mobile x-ray come up a few hours later. Everything was fine, it was just slow moving. It made me really nervous that something was wrong though.

I was on a pre-op liquid diet (OptiFast shakes only) for 7 days, clear liquid only the day before surgery and until this morning, I've only had Clear Liquids. I haven't been hungry at all, but I can tell my body is pretty weak from not taking in many calories. I've been really tired.

Today I started full liquids, which for me is 3 servings of 2 oz per day until my 1 week post-op appointment. I had 2 oz Fairlife chocolate shake this morning which went down well and I'm working on a 2 oz portion of SF vanilla Protein pudding right now.

It's been difficult for me to get my 64 oz of liquids in. I never thought it would take this long to drink! Before surgery, I was a person who drank 100+ easily before bed.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
