Shortest surgery date from first visit/consultation

Recommended Posts

I went for consultation at HCMC and they told

me they are 6 months out for surgeries.

I am trying to have surgery during summer while my kids are away for summer at their dads.
Are there any doctors who have earlier dates like Aug for surgery?.Or what’s the fastest anyone has had surgery scheduled from first consultation to surgery?.

I know it depends on insurance.

you would need to call doctors in your area because none of us know where you live. Start calling bariatric centers that you insurance will accept to see if they can fit you in. for me from when i completed all my pre op testing to surgery date was about 3 weeks. ( I am in Florida)

My first consult was 10/29/21 (Im in IL). I had no requirements for my insurance to meet other than attending some workshops the WL Clinic had. I just got my surgery date 2 weeks ago for May 3rd. So my wait wasnt necessarily due to insurance, it was the WL clinic's requirements that had me waiting.

Many insurance companies require monthly weigh ins and a so called physician monitored weight loss attempt which are typically for six months. Are you sure it’s really six months until they have a surgery date and it’s not they are scheduling six months out because of the insurance requirements? If it’s definitely just waiting on the surgeon I would take liveaboard’s suggestion of calling around to other reputable surgeons in my area to see if they have shorter wait times.

You might try to call the surgeon's office to get an estimation. Apart from insurance requirements Covid has affected the length of wait times because of the cancellation of elective surgeries that has lead to greater wait times. Least it has here in Oz.

Your health insurer could give it some perspective as to what they will require.

It’s been almost 9 months for me, it’s a 6 month program. Hospital has been working on a selective surgical schedule until recently due to the Pandemic and have been behind. I started my liquid diet yesterday. My program technically Ended in February as eligible. Don’t bank on anything so you don’t get upset. I wish you the best of luck

The lady that told me about WLS (a friend of my aunts and she introduced me sO she could share her experience) was self pay and her consult to surgery was pre COVID and it was two weeks exactly and that was cause of the pre op diet.

Did you a pre op liquid diet or how did your situation unfold for you? Are you in the US?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
