Revision... distillization of rny

Recommended Posts

So, I am scheduled for my rny revision on March 21st. Had my pre-op today. It's going to be out patient, a simpler procedure than my original bypass. Still have to do the modified liquid diet pre-op for 14 days: 2 meals Protein Drinks, 1 light meal (3 oz lean meat, 1 cup veggies) or another Protein Drink. Have to get pre-op testing... bloodwork and an ekg.

I'm excited and ready for the 21st to be here! I quit smoking two weeks ago as part of my surgeons requirements. I am making the changes needed to make the most of this. I know weight loss will be slower, but I'm also in a better place to stick to the plan.

My revision is not due to regain, just a boost to get to goal and to help with digestive and slow motility issues.

Original surgery was over 21 years ago,I starting weight was 475. I lost 100lbs down to 275 gained some weight when I got pregnant but then lost that regain, and kept it off. Last 17 years I've bounced between 245 and 275. Due to medical/digestive issues, I go through periods where I can barely eat and then go back to maintenance diet. This surgery is not only to help me get to a goal of 175ish but also to help settle the digestive issues.

Any other revisions going on this month?

This past Tuesday I had my revision, sleeve to bypass. During the leak test we discovered I have very slow motility of my esophagus. My surgeon thinks this will correct itself as things from my revision heals.

I hope it does resolve itself for you! I want to keep up with how you are doing.

I'm just curious - can I ask what: Revision... distillization of rny is? :)

I think it's root is 'Distal' so making the existing bypass more distal, more intestines bypassed.

Good luck,

Hi. Curious how your surgery went? How is your weightloss? Are you having any complications?

My surgeries were eye opening. I had surgery in March, where my surgeon discovered, my previous surgery was done wrong so he had to abort and close me back up. He had to assess the next steps to consider how to fix the issue he found. We made a plan and I had to wait three months for my next surgery.

I had my 2nd surgery June 27th. Dr Chaisson was going to fix the issues he found the first time and do the revision. Surgery was expected to be 3 hrs but ended up being 8hrs long. This time, with a more thorough look at the anatomy, he found out my common channel was only 25cm long and my pouch was larger than expected. Both of those things mean that I never had a RNY bypass but a biliopancreatic diversion. So my surgeon had to fix the issues with my anamostasis to the pouch, resize my pouch and make my common channel longer.

So it wasn't what we expected at all, my loss has been slow, but I've lost about 50lbs since June.

It has been a bit traumatic, very angry with my original surgeon, but I am proud of the progress. The nsv's have been great! Was able to touch my toes today lol!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
