eye opening experience

Recommended Posts

well, i had my eye opening experience the other day. i have lost 10 lbs on my 6 month medically supervised diet, but i have started to gain again. anyway.......my boyfriend and i went to burger king for lunch ( i know, bad in itself) and i had a king size whopper meal. not good to begin with....but then i still wasn't satisfied so i had ANOTHER value meal in the same sitting!!! i have never done that before. that was basically the end for me. im so glad i decided to get the band. my paperwork is being submitted in 2 weeks, so hopefully they say yes. anyway..just thought i would share. what was your eye opening experience??? thanks for letting me vent.

Sorry sweetie! But we have all been there.

Mine was I couldn't fit into a movie theater seat to watch a movie with my kids.

But everything happens for a reason and if that is what it takes to get us here, it is all good!

Good luck!

Yep, now THAT is going to change. Everyone has this idea that their life ends after the band, food is forbidden and they'll never again have what they had before. Wrong. Burger King will still be there and so willl the cheeseburger. You will probably be able to eat at least some portion of the burger....maybe...if you can do breads down the road...but never again will you stuff a burger and fries in your face and go back for seconds. THAT's what's gonna change, and for us that's what we need. Lots of people eat burgers and don't gain loads of weight....but they eat them sensibly, occasionally, and in small quantities. I was reading somewhere the other day and I saw this quote from a doctor...

There are no bad foods. There are only bad portions.

wow you guys are such great support.

jacole, I am feeling the same way. I think its what most call the last meal syndrome. I am trying to get it under control. It is all in the mind really.

I am trying to catch that little devil voice telling me to eat this or eat that and I am nipping it in the bud...

For me I know it is definitely the stress of awaiting for my records to be compiled and be sent to insurance. In the meantime nerves are working a mental appetite..

Mine was when my kid (at the time she was 3), saw a commercial for slim fast...she patted me on the tummy and told me I should buy it....sad but true

I have to say I have enjoyed reading everyone's messages. I will have my lapband op next Monday, Dec. 17th.

I decided to join this site because all of you. Keep it up. I will need it. Congrats to all of you, also.

My husband, king of the all you can eat buffet, bought a hamburger a week after he went back on solids. It took him four meals to eat the thing.

Now if we go to McDonald's, we order a 99 cent burger and a side salad, then split them. Sometimes we still can't finish the stuff.

My eye opening experience/turning point was when I sat on a plastic outdoor chair - and the bugger broke, I was extremely embaressed - but maybe I'll be able to look back 12 months down the track and laugh about it.

Was when I started getting winded at work walking to the cafeteria, huffing and puffing like I had gone up 2 or 3 flights of stairs. I have to wait until January before I can try for approval, as my insurance for this year will not cover it. It is so exciting reading all the posts here, I still find it hard to believe it might come true!!:help:

I guess I'd have to say my eye-opening experience was taking 4 1/2 years to get pregnant and then having a miscarriage. Nobody said to me that it was my weight, but miscarriages do not run in my family on either side. I knew something had to be done before I waited another 4 years for it to happen again. I want to be a cute preggo, too...and I would not have been - I would have looked like I just packed on some extra pounds.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
