Initial weight vs current weight

Recommended Posts

Hi! I know I've been posting alot lately and appreciate everyone's responses! I am still undecided which surgery I will be getting but am leaning towards the sleeve. I am starting at a higher weight (375lbs) - my surgeon says the sleeve could bring me down to about 230lbs but I guess I'm just looking to see true life results.

If you had the sleeve, could you please let me know the following:

Starting weight:

Current weight:

Date of surgery:

I didn't have sleeve, but this is true of either surgery - it's a real individual thing, and largely dependent on how committed you are to your program. You'll find people who are tremendously successful with both surgeries - and others who have failed both surgeries. And lots of people in the middle.

statistically you'll lose a bit more with the bypass, but it's not really that significant of a difference. And SO MUCH depends on how committed you are. There are lots of people on here who've lost all or most of their excess weight with the sleeve, because they've followed their programs to a "T". It takes a lot of work -but if you're determined and willing to put the work in, you'll be successful regardless of surgery.

P.S. that weight he gave you (230) is based on statistics. Statistically, that's where you're likely to end up. But with any statistic, you'll find people who fall on either side of that. Again, depending on how committed they are.

Sleeve Starting Weight: 260

Current Weight: 204 (gained 10, was down to 194)

Date of Sleeve Surgery: 12/18/2018

Keep in mind that everybody's journey is different.

Started pre-op diet at 276lbs. Surgery was cancelled for another 2 months but I kept calorie counting that whole time so in total I lost 25lbs pre-op in the end.

Surgery weight 251

Date of sleeve 17 November 2021

Current weight 220

So that's 31lbs off in 11.5 weeks since surgery. 8lbs in the week of surgery then a long post-op stall that lasted over 3 weeks.

I have really found a groove with my eating and am losing a steady 2lbs a week at the minute. I do drink some alcohol every weekend which I know is completely empty calories, but it's something I have chosen to do and factor in. If I stall again or once my rate of loss slows I'll probably stop it again!

Hope that helps. I loved reading other people's stats pre-op and I still do really. 😍 Keep asking questions - it's a big decision, a lifelong commitment to being different, and there is such a lot of experience in this group you're absolutely right to use it.

What @catwoman7 said.

But to answer your question, I was sleeved 3+ years ago and:

Sleeve Starting Weight: 235 lbs (2 weeks before surgery)

Current Weight: 117.6 lbs this morning

Date of Sleeve Surgery: October 2018

P.S. I’m 5’2”

When I was sleeved in 2016 I started at 315, and dropped about 25 lbs during the liver shrinking diet. It took me about 5 o 6 months to get down to 195. Unfortunately I screwed up and over the next several years put most of the weight back on.

I had the bypass 11/17/21. I started at 293, got down to 278 after the liver shrinking diet, and as of this morning am just over 237.

@catwoman7 is on the mark. Where you end up is up to you but your body & life can throw curve balls at you. Often surgeons advise what seems a conservative achievable weight which is based on stats of where people are at 5 years out (a lose of about 65% of the weight you had to lose).

Started at 91kg.

Lowest 48.2kg

Currently 50.2kg & nearing 3 years out.

And post as often as you want & need. 🙂. We’re all happy to share our experience.

Heavy weight: 396 lbs

Intake weight: 375 lbs

Surgery weight: 357 lbs

Current weight: 276 lbs

Goal weight: 240 lbs

I'm 6 feet tall and was sleeved September 14, 2021. I am a week short of five months post-op and am still losing around 2 lbs a week on 1800-2000 calories a day. (I am also extremely active, so don't take those calories as written in stone.)

So true, I have not been here on the site for awhile but you have to be committed! That is not always easy...I went from 260 lbs to 155 lbs at my lowest weight. Than for 3 yrs at 164 to 165 then 169 and now 171. food still tastes good, even though I do not get hunger. They should take your taste buds or some of them. LOL just kidding! I do understand the folks here that regain weight because food does taste good and it is easy to take a few bites too many or go back to old habits. Athough the pain and dumping syndrome are not worth it. Just being honest. My observation go for RNY or as I had Bilopantriac bypass are probably best for long term as I have some family members and friends who gained their weight back quickly by having the sleeve, but it is really about you...whatever you choose you have to be committed. I did not have a choice as I had kidney disease and this operation saved my life and I am scared to death to regain weight but I am committed. Why take 6 months of your life getting ready for the surgery and then go back to the old ways and regain the weight. Not to sound self righteous as I said but be committed! Good Luck to all!

Highest weight: 330

goal weight: 195 (this was the brightest weight in normal weight range for my height on the BMI scale).

current weight: 180 pounds.

i was sleeved March 24,2021 so I’m almost at a year out. I’ve stalled for the last several weeks now. I tend to have long stalls and then sudden drops.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
