February 2022 Surgery Buddies

I think my Vitamin has that worked into it. What's weird is my nails are growing like crazy. Like never before and are super hard and tough when before they were brittle but the hair is falling out. Hoping it's temporary.

Well everyone I will be 3 months on the 8th and I’m officially down 60lbs and saying goodbye to the 300s. Still eating very little I eat about 4 bites and I’m full. I still have to drink a Protein Shake a day because I can’t eat enough but I do drink plenty of Water. Hope everyone else is doing well!!!

Congratulations on getting out of the 300’s. It’s a shame there is not a clever little name for that like onederland because it’s just as big of a deal. Yay for you!!

Wondering if anyone else feels like they can eat more than others. I can easily eat 3 oz of chicken and 1 c of salad. Wondering if I stretched my pouch out already. My weight has stalled since mid-April and before that stalled from beginning of April to mid-April. I only lost 4 lbs in April.

Coming up on my 3 month this Saturday. Crazy how fast it goes. Weight is coming off every week. I have on and off days with eating. Sometimes I can barely take 2 bites, sometimes I can eat a cup of food in one meal. But I'm happy with my progress.

I really want to start working out again. I manage long walks but nothing high intensity.

My arms are getting so saggy. I dream of getting the skin removed on them.

I keep putting off working out but I have been planting a lot of flowers and working in the yard so I would think that kind of counts. My weight hasn’t budged for almost four weeks. It is very frustrating. I don’t eat much at all and when I do I normally end up getting sick later.
I feel like it has been three very LONG months. I am just now starting to bounce back from horrible depression and anxiety.

Def counts. Gardening and yard work is hard work. I sweat up a storm.

I'm sorry to hear that. Stalls are so frustrating. If you're consistently getting sick I'd suggest checking with your team. Report to them what you've been eating, how fast or slow you eat, drinking habits etc. They should be able to help.

Sometimes I've seen suggestions that focusing on Protein (or Protein Shakes in your case since you're having trouble eating) and lots of hydration can break stalls too.

Hi Everyone, I had the gastric sleeve surgery on February 1, and tomorrow will mark 16 weeks since my surgery. I'm doing pretty well (65.3 pounds down since start of pre-op two week diet, and 48 pounds down since the surgery), but I've definitely noticed that my weight loss is slowing down. I'm a little worried that I'm starting to snack more often (I'm loving Sugar Free Chocolate pudding make with skim milk), and I need to focus on not resuming the snacking habit and sticking to my five small meals per day. I think I'm also starting to slack a bit on my Protein intake - I'm averaging only 56 grams of protein a day for the past two weeks since I had a work trip out of town and struggled to get enough protein while traveling. I also need to work on maintaining my Fluid intake. I guess I'm revealing this here to reinforce that I need to be accountable to my goals. I hope everyone is doing well!

Def understandable! I had mine on Feb 14th and find that it's way easier to snack than to eat meals. I try to just be conscious about what I'm eating, Portion Control it and make up for my protein with shakes. My restriction is really kicking in these days and have been mostly just doing shakes and one small meal.

I also dumped for the first time last week. It was AWFUL. I was traveling with friends and hadn't eaten anything all day. We went on a long vigorous hike (I was visiting the state parks in Oregon). We all worked up ah appetite and decided to get dinner after. There was nothing on the menu I could eat (I don't eat meat and can't have salad yet) so I ordered French fries because I dont have issues with potatoes. I had some fries and felt fine and then I tried my friends honey butter and omg like right after dinner I was dizzy, my heart was pounding, and I was so incredibly nauseous. We had an hour and a half long drive back to our airbnb and I just sat in the back and was like don't mind my retching that food was not a good idea. They were really understanding and offered to stop at a bathroom but I didn't even have anything to throw up. It resolved itself after I took a nap in the back seat but wow I felt like I was fighting a demon. I learned my lesson.

I want to get better at eating my small meals so I don't end up not eating all day and then impulse choosing something that won't agree with me but lately the restriction has been in full bloom. I'm mostly drinking premier and Fairlife shakes and then having small protein Snacks in between. I've lost 84 lbs since beginning this journey. The numbers are all quite motivating but now I just want to work on finding an eating routine that works for my crazy life.

Congrats!! I'm looking forward to just being overweight LOL It's a big accomplishment! My hair is falling out too. I am just parting it differently. Sometimes I wear ball caps. If it was colder, I'd wear a beanie.

Thanks, I wish you make it soon to your goal, bangs help to cover the damage for now, I use a baseball cap when I go for walks but lately I feel better leaving it on for longer periods of time. 🧢

I had my surgery on Valentine's Day
I'm officially at 270 as of this morning. I was at 309 when I went in for surgery. I want this damn weight to come off faster but I guess slow and steady wins the race. Its still funny to me being the fat person that doesn't eat anything. Obviously people who know I had surgery don't judge me about that but going to events and stuff with people I'm not familiar with and eating a couple bites of food while weighing 270 lbs is a funny image

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
