February 2022 Surgery Buddies

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, my surgery went great! Not much pain just a lot of gas. This is post-op day 3. Try to get all the fluids & Protein down. Everything seems to makes my stomach rumble. My doctor has me taking Mobic daily to keep pain to a minimal, but makes me sleepy. I haven’t weighed yet. Maybe tomorrow.
We got this !

I'm lucky with the caffeine. Just a unsweet iced tea a couple times a week. Stopped those this week. Glad that's not permanent! It's nice to have something to drink besides Water since I don't like coffee of any kind.

Nutritionist recommended Unjury chicken Soup whey Protein Powder to make broth. Apparently the taste is amazing and the extra Protein makes it more filling. You can only order it on the Unjury website.

I like Premiere Protien shakes, Optimum whey Protien powders and ProtienO2 Water. Concerned I won't be able to all the Protien I need all the time, so I also bought some unflavored Optimum Whey Protien powder to add to food. Nutritionist recommended whey Protien when using powders. You can get the Optimum and ProtienO2 from Amazon. I used Subscribe and Save to get up to 15% off.

I also bought a highly-rated bariatric cookbook by Sarah Kent ($10 on Amazon). It helped me feel more optimistic about food post-recovery. I'm going to try some of the recipes before surgery to know what I like now and not when I'm hangry.

One question for everyone...you going to use a post-surgery Abdominal binder? Getting very mixed messages about those.

I'm 3 days post op and my abdomen binder is the only thing keeping me getting up and walking and not depending on the oxy they gave me for pain (just Tylenol and the muscle relaxers, and I'm even down to taking the relaxers 2-3 times a day instead of 4). I love it but have heard not to wear it past a week or two post-op.

Hello everyone
I had my sleeve procedure on the 17th and all is well. Sore on day of surgery. Went back on Friday for fluids and pain relief via IV. But I really feel good. One incision is a little annoying but otherwise I’m up walking and relaxing. I have no appetite so I’m struggling to get my Protein done.

2wks out from revision sleeve to RNY best decision I’ve could have ever made. I feel so good now finally. Was becoming short of breath easily and racing pulse going to the bathroom. That now seems to have subsided, but cannot poop regularly and milk of magnesium doesn’t really help.

I'm a week out from my gastric bypass. Pretty much feel normal but also have a racing heartbeat when doing activities. I think it's from recovery, not eating or you might be dehydrated. I'm also soooooo constipated. I just talked to my nurse who said to take colace for a couple of days or Miralax until I can go. They also mentioned this tea called like Smooth Move. Might give it a shot if the meds don't work. So far nothing. I feel so nauseous being constipated.

I am 5 days PO and have had a BM the past 2 days. I started taking miralax daily while still in the hospital. When I still hadn't had a BM after a couple of days I added 30 ml of Milk of Magnesia (ew) and a mug (about 6 oz) of the Smooth Move tea. That got things moving and I've actually skipped the Miralax the past 2 days and just done Smooth Move tea in the evenings (I drink it in place of Water, an ounce at a time, after its cooled to room temp). I feel like I did need that extra punch of the combo to get things moving foe the first time after surgery, but then just one solution seems to be working. My team said not to go more than 3 days without pooping and to go ahead and take Miralax daily until I start solids and can add more Fiber to regulate. Good luck! You've got this!

Hoping you find some relief with the Constipation. On Amazon I saw
Dripdrop ORS Hydration Electrolyte packets I was considering getting for post op. However they do have 7grams of sugar. I wonder if they could help

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
