Get ready for my surgery

Recommended Posts

Try to focus on WHY you are doing the surgery. Not just for what the scale says but the non scale victories you hope to achieve. There is a thread here called “weirdest non scale victories” that has many of them listed. Maybe scroll through that to remind yourself all the reasons that this surgery will be worth it.

I was ALL up in my feelings before surgery and just had to be reassured constantly.

But here's the thing. The weight is going to come FLYING off you. The first few weeks are hard while you work off the fluids and gas and get used to the new way of things. But once you pee away the extra surgical fluids, you are in the serious honeymoon phase. I could step on the scale three times a day and have it be lower—and I started at a lower weight.

Once you get used to it, you're going to notice so much energy. You won't be stuck in bed. You'll be up and about before you know it.

I know you got this. You're gonna rock it.

I'm so happy for you!

I would just say to follow the plan your surgery team has set up. Try REALLY HARD not to go back to old habits.

If you can, have the foods you are supposed to eat (likely broth, liquids, Protein Shakes, sugar free Jello, etc) all ready in your house. Don't force yourself to eat when you can't. Make sure you drink drink drink (SMALL sips) so you are getting your fluids in. I found keeping a bottle of Water or flavored water (like Crystal light) in my hand all the time when I was awake helped a lot.

You'll do great!

Not really much to be nervous about. I was surprised how quickly I felt better and how little pain I felt. Just do what they ask you to do, get up and walk ASAP and walk often just as soon as you can stand up. You are making the right decision!!!

I bought those little bathroom cups and set up some that I would constantly refill with Water to get me through the first couple weeks. Helped a ton to visualize that “ok, I’ve emptied 3 of them, one more won’t be so bad” instead of what seemed daunting in a big water bottle.

Also, invest in good shoes. You’re worth the miles you’ll put on them and your feet with thank you!

I'm have my surgery Friday is there anymore last advice you can give to feel less nervous.

I have surgery on Friday too and I'm honestly so anxious! I just want it to be over. I also don't have anyone here in the city I live in. I know I can get through this as I've always had a "can do" attitude I'm just nervous.

Be kind to yourself and also be proud of yourself! It’s a step on a difficult but worthwhile journey you’re already on. Remember you’ll be in good hands, all you need to do is show up! They do all the rest 🤗

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
