Pre-Op Dec 11th - Procedure Dec 12th

Recommended Posts

Im still hung over and got a few gas pains kicking in. I would say I was up every 2 hours last night trying pee. I guess a side effect of the meds is that it makes it hard to pee.

My left shoulder is where the most of the gas pain is. My tummy is a bit bloated but I think that might be from the GAX X strips I have been using to ease the gas pains.

Im still pretty sleepy but I hope after today I can switch to the liquid tylonal I got rather then the other stuff the doc gave me. I think that stuff is vicoden or somthing but in liquid form and man do I feel stoned! I dont like it at all. Its better then hurting I guess.

Anyway, Im in my 2nd day of post op and all in all felling OK!

I am but I have had a few pretty big dirt bike injurys and alwasy seem to compair my pain levels to my seperated shoulder or rib seperation from my sternum and it makes the rest of pain I have had so far pail in compairson haha

I do have a bit of pain when I try to sit up from bed but not to bad. Right now my left shoulder is smarts from the C02. Im gonna try a heating to see if that helps.

I am also taking the liquid drugs the doc gave me so Im sure this is helping. I dont like being on dope but I tried to tuff guy my rib injury and learned real fast that somthings I can tuff out and others I better not try. Having surgery to your tummy is one I dont wana try to tuff out! hahah

I have also been walking around alot! Everyone said walking helps with the gas and pain so I have been looping the house and a few loops around the block. It seems to help.

I sure hope you feel better!

Jes, what have you eaten if anything so far? Ive had one of those small Jello snack containers. Im paranoid about what I should eat. But im sipping on some peppermint tea. I havent had any gas pains yes, (Cross your fingers)

But yes, it DOES help to walk, i just did a lap around the house, and i am feeling better by the minutes.

Keep in touch. Im sure you're just hanging out today like i am. :)

Ohh sorry, as for your question. I started with a Soup spoon and sipped it. I enjoyed the warm Soup on my throat since it was all scratchy from the tubes. About half way thru I started sipping it from teh soup cup. I guess I drank it about as fast as a hot cup of coffee. I didnt gulp thats for sure!

Just slow normal sips. It was very nice having something warm to eat. I think its time for some now. I have chicken, veggie and beef. I need protine and think I might try to mix some shake mix in with teh soup to see how that tastes. Its plain mix so shouldnt tase anything but if I do then Ill tossit out. No biggy. I just want to make sure I get my protiens. Dont wanna risk my hair thinning anymore then it is! haha

Jesse...Well, i just take a few bites of Jello and im totally full. So thats why i asked. but im looking forward to something hot and yummy, like broth. mmmmm broth. :)

Glad everyones doing good!

Im on day after sugery. Still broth and Water. Maybe try some mushroom Soup with 1% milk for dinner but I dont know if I should yet. Im not in much pain. Only sitting up from laying down or hiccups, which just started by the way. Not as bad as trying to sneez with a busted rib but its up there!

Anyway, this forum is WAY cool! Its nice having others who are going thru the same things at the same time.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
