Anyone Else Having an Increased Sex Drive?

Recommended Posts

Sheesh, I had my band on Sept. 11th. I had no real restriction until around Thanksgiving after my second fill. Almost immediately (a week or so) I started to have an increased sex drive! :)

(I am not talking about an addiction transfer to uncontrolled sexual behavior). I also have had almost a complete irradication of the residual mild depression that my Lexapro and the "inner work" that I do had not yet seemed to affect.

It is probably not from my thinking having changed so much from weight loss, I have lost about 20 pounds, but big deal. And it is not from exercise, which I have experienced when I was younger and trained in body building for a couple years. I am not doing any intense exercise yet.

So I am thinking that the change in diet, i.e. a radical drop in fat consumption and simple (refined) carbohydrates (not sugar, I am not much of a sweets eater) and a switch to a high quality liquid Vitamin supplement called Source of Life, High Quality Protein supplement powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, and Wheat Grass daily is a big contributing factor.

I am 46 and just figured, oh I just am not as into sex as I used to be... But it is changing and I find it remarkable to start to realize how much nutrition might have to do with Sex Drive and Depression. I have always been told this, but of course, I know everything and didn't believe it, really. Until I started to experience it..

:clap2: WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR EXPERIENCES!

Don't question it - lol!!

My sex drive has been non-existent. It's really freaking me out! Sex is soooooo much more enjoyable now that I am down over 65lbs but my sex drive is still M.I.A. Cry.gif

(I'm hoping it has something to do with the 2 yeast infections and 2 UTI's I've had since surgery in Aug. The IV antibiotics during surgery seem to have started this NEVERENDING cycle. My poor kitty is the only part of me NOT feeling better since being banded)

I would expect this from women, but I've lost over 140 lbs (Between pre-surgery diet & post surgery) and I am driving my self crazy. It just feels so much better now. I've done a commercial for the surgery center that I work for and women are always coming up to me and telling me how much better that I look. It is like my sexual feelings have woken up.

The strange thing is that my wife and I had surgery on the same day, and she has not had the same sexual feelings. She has not lost near as much weight as I have. I am hoping as she looses more weight she will feel more sexual.

It is driving me nuts.

Candle, have you tried Activia, or just ask the pharmacist or health food store for Acidophilus...? That helps me with some of the effects of antibiotics. They are something, aren't they?

John, I am rolling on the floor! Driving you nuts, no pun intended. I know some of us chicks have hormonal stuff at certain ages that effect the ole libido; we're sorry! LOL

Candle, your kitty? Oh my god I almost fell out the chair when I read that. You are hilarious! Here kitty kitty kitty.

Too funny you guys.

And Never Again, have you tried porno? LOL Don't tell anyone but I watched one. Once. I swear it was only once... I wil never do it again. I promise. I think. Oh hell who knows....

I'm probably one of the only guys that I know that porn doesn't do much for. It may have something to do with the fact that I'm pre-med and anatomy is just anatomy. I have no idea. My testosterone is supposed to be at its highest right now. I guess that I shouldn't be complaining about it, though, because at least I don't need to worry about an unwanted pregnancy. :)

I must admit, though, it does get a little annoying when the situation presents itself. Yarg...

Wow, 67 pds lost since being banded? Is all of that post op? I was banded on 11/20/07 and I have only lost 16 pounds. I am quite depressed about it. I have no restriction whatsoever!! This is freaking me out. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing what you are eating. I need to see some more weight loss. I am feeling out of control with food just like my pre op days. Please help.

By the way, I hope the "kitty" gets better. I was OTFLMAO!!

Sounds like you are right on track with 16 pounds. And without restriction? Remarkable! I was banded on Sept. 11th and have lost about 20 pounds. 10 pounds a month is excellent. And once you get restriction, you will be so happy - the appetite just flys away. My doctor says the weight loss portion doesn't even really begin until after the fills start, for most of us, and not to worry about it.

also, about three weeks post-op I was able to eat ANYTHING and gained 3 pounds until my fill at 6 weeks. Doc said don't sweat it chickie, there is nothing in the band, it will feel just like you didn't have it once the swelling is down and that is a good thing because it tell him that I am healing well - he saw it as a positive and that totally changed everything for me. I was being so hard on myself, until he said that even weight gain during post op is not that unusual.

LovingWhatIs - Thanks for the concern and giggles. I think my "kitty" may finally be back on track. I just got over that TOM so we'll see in the next few days. I have PCOS and I think the insulin resistance makes me prone to yeast infections. I had so much on my mind at the time of surgery, that was the last thing I was worrying about. I should have known better.

newlife35 - I think you are doing GREAT!! It sounds like you are right on track. It really is true that the first few weeks are for healing.

I've even surprised myself at how well I have done so far. I lost 14lbs on the pre-op diet from 8/16-8/27 and 53lbs since surgery on 8/27. Low carb and exercise seem to be my keys to success. I've only had one small fill so far and I don't have any restriction yet either. I understand where you are coming from!

<O:pThis is my day today, which is a pretty average day:

B: sugar free oatmeal w/ PB2 (or fruit)<O:p</O:p

L: salad w/ Chic/hard boiled egg/cheese

S: 1/2 cup cottage cheese w/ fruit<O:p</O:p

D: left over stir fry - chic w/ peppers/carrots/onions/snow peas

Per day I shoot for: < 1000 calories > 70 grams Protein < 75 carbs (if they're good carbs I don't stress out about it)<O:p</O:p

<O:p</O:p

I try to eat a lot of whole grains, fruit & veggies, and mostly meat for Protein although I do enjoy garden burgers, Beans, yogurt, cottage cheese, Protein Bars (Pure Protein or Luna), etc<O:p</O:p

<O:p</O:p

If I "cheat" I just try and make up for it with more exercise. We walked about 30 blocks in NYC on Saturday, so I let myself have a latte and 1/2 a big cookie from Starbucks.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
