Plus sized spray tan???

Recommended Posts

I had a malignant melanoma about five years ago so I am not supposed to go into the sun anymore which when I was heavier I always wore long pants so it didn’t much matter that I was ghostly. As I am losing weight I am starting to wear shorts and my pasty white legs are hard to miss in south FLORIDA where everyone else is golden bronze. I am starting to look into spray tanning but I am just wondering if there are any things to consider or tips and tricks to doing this with a plus sized body? The salon near me has mystic tan booth if that makes a difference. I am pretty sure my larger bust is going to be my biggest challenge but are there others??

I'm not a huge fan of spray on tans. Maybe it's the way my skin cells shed, or maybe i don't exfoliate enough, or just have weird dry skin? I don't know. But when I get a spray on tan, I look Orange for a little while...then my skin sheds a little and I look weirdly speckled. I don't care for it. I also don't like the smell of the spray tan, particularly after a shower or swimming.

However...since I'm a white vampire, sometimes it's nice to have a little color.

I use Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Makeup (in Medium)

It's just makeup for your legs (arms, bust, whatever you need)....but it looks much more like a real tan to me. It sets up well and doesn't get on your clothes. (If I wear white, I do dust it with a little translucent powder, but i'm not sure it's necessary) You can swim in it for an hour or two.

It scubs off with warm Water, soap and a washcloth...but you do have to scrub a little.

I actually like wearing sleeveless again cause of this stuff. It really does look nice on legs.

Another cool thing about Leg makeup...it reduces the look of scars, freckles, stretchmarks, veins

Being opaque, I bet it's a decent sunscreen, too.

I’m very pale and use self tanners. If you have a partner help out them on after exfoliating correctly, they work great. Bondi Sands light/medium gets me quite dark after two applications and lasts about 10 days. Make sure you put a heavy lotion on knees, elbows, or anywhere you have thicker skin first to prevent them darkening more. Also, use the applicator mitt that comes with this, it does make a difference in the application and doesn’t streak.

In your shoes, I would continue to wear pants and long sleeves in light weight fabrics or sun-guard fabrics. Rayon is very comfortable in hot weather.

I'm very pale and burn badly. I have been treated for actinic keratosis (pre-cancerous cells) and don't want to risk worse.

I never go out in the sun without a hat or clothing to block the sun. I NEVER sit in the sun and always seek shade. Even my swimwear is covering. I wear bicycle-shorts bottoms and 3/4 sleeve t-shirts in swimsuit material. I've even got capri length bottoms but haven't worn them.

SPF70 sunblock!

I appreciate your being ao safe in the sun. Both my husband and I are always safe now too. I am just looking for a bit of color with a fake spray on tan (make up) or a self tan tbat I can actually do to myself without it looking ridiculous.

I have thought about using that but I sweat a lot especially when I wear shorts and sit on vinyl and that’s when I would want to use it and I worry it would come off on the furniture.

I may try this and just ask my hubby to help. He will complain but what’s new. He uses self tanner himself so it’s not like he doesn’t know how to do it. Lol.

That's a good question. I've never had a spray tan. Like you, I've had melanoma and can't do tanning beds or be out in the real sun too much anymore. I've used Jergens Glow Lotion but it discolors the inside of my clothes (it washes out eventually) but I don't always get it even and when you sweat in the creases behind your knees it makes it come of and leave yellow streaks. I just don't worry about it anymore.

Update. I still don’t want to splurge on the professional spray tan and have tried the Jergens build a tan a couple times but didn’t get enough color (I used the fair to medium because I have fair skin). I finally bought the instant Version by Jergens in LIGHT bronze from Amazon (they carry it in Walmart just not mine apparently) and so far I love it. I was able to do it all myself but my back and my hubby did that part for me. It dries pretty quick and this morning I woke up to a light glow. It says if you want more color to do it again the next day which I may try just to see but I think the darker you get the more you will be able to see the darker Patches that are inevitable with fake tan. I have a pool party to go to next Saturday and I am hoping to perfect this by then. The one thing I regret I didn’t do was to apply lotion to my dry spots beforehand because they didn’t get dark with the build a tan so I thought I was good but my knees and ankles did get a bit blotchy. Hubby uses fake tan and says to just rub off with a wash cloth in shower and do a light second coat allover so I will try that tonight. Anyways for those afraid of being too dark or Orange this light bronze should be good option for you too.

Ooh and I used the build a tan version on my face but apply it like twice a day to make it darker. It’s still lighter than my body but not gleaning white so I am happy.

My sister in law uses the tanning lotion and she got out of the pool and it was like running off of her skin. Looked like running Water colors. I don't know the brand though.

Might want to do a test run before your pool party if you have access to a pool?

Aha. Good call. That would be quite embarrassing cause it’s at a public pool. I don’t have a pool but we do have chlorine so I could add a bit to a bucket of Water to sorta simulate.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
