I just had sleeve gastrectomy completed on 7/1/2021. I am having the hardest time getting anything to stay down. I vomit when I take my Vitamins, when I drink Protein, when I eat baby food, when I eat or drink anything even Water. I cannot get my ounces in for liquids or Protein. I need some guidance. The acid reflux has been the worst part. My surgeon has switched my medications to try and get the acid under control. I just need support because I am not sure how long this miserable part lasts and I am over it. Nothing good is easy and I am not a whiner, but this is pretty tough...

Hope everything gets better..I know you said you spoke to your Surgeon. Is it possible maybe there is a leak. Did you ask him that or maybe next time bring that up as a concern

you too! I'm about to leave for the hospital!

How are you feeling? I had my surgery early morning the sedation had me in and out all day. The gas pain was real thankfully the doctor ordered something for it.

Day 2 post-op: starting to feel better now. Because right after surgery and day 1 post-op, I was like « what have I done? », the pain and nausea were so bad! I guess you have to take it one day at a time. Leaving the hospital in 1 hour, happy this step is behind me. On to the next step! Courage to all of you out there

Still here at the hospital, no pain at all! I'm shocked honestly. The worst part for me is the nausea and throwing up. I can't keep anything down. The doctor won't let me leave without keeping stuff down

I came home yesterday afternoon. The problem I’m having is the gas pains and gas x isn’t helping. It makes it hard to get fluids down cause it hurts. Otherwise I’m just sore around my stomach. The nurses didn’t give you a nausea patch before surgery?

I just lost my balance and fell on my left hand. Hand swelled, left side of back I probably pulled several muscles.

also, I have some sort of stress rash right around my belly button.

oh what fun!

I cheated on my pre-op diet. My diet was supposed to be milk and yoghurts and I started really struggling to stomach it so I just started skipping ‘meals’ and some days I’ve not had much at all. Today, I just felt really weak after my pre-admission blood tests so I’ve had a packet of super noodles. I feel terrible and with my op only being two days away I’m worried that they won’t even operate on me anymore.

I had to start my preop liquid diet this past Wednesday and surgery was Friday. I cheated too I had some crackers, I was getting a Migraine and didn’t want to take the meds on empty stomach and ate a few crackers Thursday. I still had my surgery on Friday and no issues except this gas pain crap. You will be ok don’t be so hard on yourself. Many people cheat on their preop diets I’m sure the surgeons know patients will cheat a little. Take a deep breath and don’t stress

Hi. Don’t be so hard on your self. I cheated too and I’m sure a lot of others have too. If you look up other programs, they all do things differently. Try to stick to your plan but don’t be negative. No one is perfect.

I’m New here! 😊 I have definitely been having a hard time on this preop liquid diet. I have also cheated a few times. My surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday August 4th. I can’t have anything else but liquids not like some other people that can have a small meal ☹️. I’m trying to hang in there tho!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
