I had my VSG 5/17. To date I have had no nausea, no vomiting, no pain or discomfort aside from what I think of as normal healing pains. I was upgraded to puree a couple days ago, and am having no issues with anything i've tried. I don't need to drink any Protein Shakes to get enough in. I am following the dietician's guidelines with what to eat, and how much, and I can always eat my whole 2oz, although I do feel full by the end. I do feel some hunger and I'm still having wicked cravings for some of the foods I had before but have not caved in yet. My concern is that all this is just going too smoothly, I see all these posts about people not being able to finish meals, nausea/vomiting's for weeks post op, and people really struggling with Water and I'm concerned that I'm not going to have as much weight loss since its all been so easy here. I was 'hoping' for some of the n/v to help me curb my eating, and to help reinforce the habits i've learned before surgery. I'm worried. Anyone else post op experience similarly and what happened with yall?

I had a really easy recovery too, and liquids were no problem for me. The restriction really kicked in once I transitioned to regular foods. I’m now 22 months post op and still will vomit if I eat just one bite to many. Thankfully it doesn’t happen often because I’ve really learned to be aware of my body’s full signals and stop before I take that one last bite that puts me over the edge.

I didn't have one issue post surgery and followed the program to the letter. It was very very easy for me. I'm almost a year out and am now having severe cravings and don't feel full after eating. I'm maintaining and that is good, but am starting to worry about the cravings and slipping into bad habits.

I sometimes worry about the same thing. I had very little pain post surgery and no issues with getting liquids or Protein, no issues with purée or soft foods. I have tolerated everything I have eaten so far. No nausea, vomiting, nothing. I sometimes worry that the lack of these things will make the surgery less successful for me. But at 12 weeks post op, I have lost 40 pounds (total) and I am a lower BMI so it is working... just a little slower than for some. I think this is because I can consume more food than most at this stage. I have heard veterans that continued losing for almost two years so I think the weight will come off within that time frame it just may take the full two years to get there.

RNY here. I never had any issues, either. Some of us don't. Consider yourself lucky!

(btw - not having issues won't affect your weight loss as long as you follow your surgeon's plan. I lost 100% of my excess weight)

I haven't had any issues either. I asked my nutritionist if I'd really had surgery or was it all a dream. She laughed and said 90% of people don't have any issues. I do feel the restriction more depending on the texture of the food. I can have a lot of Soup but not so much of chicken and steak. I was RNY on 3/3/21 and I've lost 45 since surgery. I think because I haven't had the negative consequences of throwing up or anything, it's really going to force to make better food choices. I'm hoping that if I can make that a habit now that it will serve me better when it comes to maintaining.

I'm in the same boat as you. Still on full liquid but that includes yogurt and I swear I down 8 oz plus with no problem and no full feeling at all. Some people said that's because it sorta dissolves into nothing before swallowing and real food will be different. I hope so. But I too have no nausea or vomiting, etc. Smooth sailing when it comes to food/eating/drinking.

Yesterday, in preparation for my puree stage which starts Thursday, I made a chicken salad like I normally do, shredded chicken/chicken cut into small bites, mayo, salt and pepper. Now for puree I'm supposed to puree it down further. But for shits and giggles, and because I am so over the liquid stage and I was hungry, I ate about two tablespoons of it AS IS, NOT pureed and it went down just fine. I constantly hear of people having issues with chicken months out so this worries me too that it's so easy. I hope my dang doc took enough stomach out! LOL But seriously.

it's probably because of the mayo. Some people can eat chicken breast if it has some kind of sauce on it. If plain, it's too dry for many of us - at least for the first few months.

I thought this, too! I’ve had no issues, to date. I’m a week out from VSG, am back to work (desk job, wfh), and I’m feeling great! I do feel I have to eat slowly when munching on applesauce but I drink fine now (had a few sipping annoyances the first few days). I plan to walk about a mile today to destress from the shit-show that is a week of unanswered work emails, lol. Even my giant multi Vitamin goes down without issue (thankfully). Good luck to everyone on this journey!

One year post op and I had no problems whatsoever. Nothing has bothered me, things don’t taste any different, restriction is real and I’m still never hungry. For reference one egg fills me up but I can do two if I push it. Way below goal at this point. Forums like this definitely highlight the problems some people have. It’s not bad it’s just people trying to get advice /vent. There aren’t a lot of people who post “this was stupid easy” even though we’re out there so the perception isn’t exactly representative of reality.

I didn't have much nausea or vomiting either. Was always able to get my Water and Protein in once I started on soft foods. Worst problem I had was some faintness after eating - needed to sit down and rest for 20 minutes after eating for about 4-6 months. A year out, and I've made it below my original goal. I couldn't be happier, and am so glad I did it.

Nausea and vomiting is not how this is supposed to work or anything. It's just a common problem. Part of the way that it works is by restricting how much you can eat, and giving you a full feeling faster. But actually, scientists don't entirely understand why it works so well. If they did, they would be trying to find a non-surgical route that achieves the same effect.

And of course, as @Officially Not Fatty Matty said, forums are going to have more of the complaints than the average experience. People usually don't seek out forums so they can post "OMG this is so easy." They seek out forums when they are having issues and need some advice.

Then you should see my doctor's FB group, everyone praises him as a hero, and says how awesome everything is. I am like we are doing the work by the way lol. Not having problems or not feeling that my pouch is getting kind of made me worried that I stretched it or something. I had bypass 4/14 and on soft foods and I feel like I can eat a little more than I'm supposed to with no problem and don't feel as full.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
