May Surgeries - check in!

Recommended Posts

I'm a little past a year since my surgery, I got my surgery done May 19th 2021. My starting weight was 272lb and my current weight is 189lb I'm 5'9 and my goal is 172. I've had bad days to where I've eaten carbs and sugar but I do my best when I have cooked my meals ahead of time and have Protein early in my day! Thanks for everyone sharing their journey, it helps keep me going, knowing I'm not alone!

I hit my one year tomorrow. I’ve lost 77.2. I’m 5’9”, 167.8 lb.

I’m at my lowest, been hanging out here the last couple months. Still hoping to get to 165. But happy where I’m at clothing size wise.

Is it a pill? Many of us are able to swallow pills pretty soon after surgery but if not ask the pharmacy if it can be crushed. Not all pills can be safely crushed though, so be sure to ask.

Hi all! I just hit my one year post-op at the end of May. I’ve made it to my goal weight and then some which feels great. However, over the past few weeks I have begun feeling extremely bloated in the afternoons and evenings. The bloating is causing some pain above my belly button and gas (sorry tmi). Has anyone else experienced this? I have a meeting with my dietitian tomorrow and am planning on asking about it too. I haven’t changed my diet in any way for several months now and am feeling full/satisfied after eating so I know it’s not hunger pangs. Thoughts? Thanks everyone and keep up the amazing work!

Whelp, you can tell a year out we are living our lives and not checking BP very often! Hello, surgery friends from May of 2021. I hope this finds you all busy and well.

To @CJEE, I'd like to hear if your bloating, etc. has resolved. It can be from so many different things and presumably you've worked through it??

I'm feeling terrific. I was dx'd with breast cancer in May (early stage) and just starting radiation, and I am convinced it was caught so early because I'm down 100 lbs. Throughout surgery and radiation prep, I have continued to maintain my weight and I love that my body feels healthy, even through cancer treatment. I feel blessed that I had WLS and am committed to continuing the journey.

Would love to hear from any/each of you too.

@pk88 so sorry to hear you are going through that, and amazing news that it was caught early. You're right, the surgery and being so on top of your health probably helped a lot!

After losing 110 lbs in the first 7 months, my weight has been stagnant for the last 11 months. I'm glad I haven't regained, but I really need to get back to basics, tracking, and start exercising in earnest. It's definitely getting a lot harder. I still want to lose another 50 lbs, at least!

Hope you are all doing well. ❤️

@james2021 thanks so much for reaching out and way to go on your achievement!! You've lost more than 1/3 of your starting weight. Starting again is always more challenging than staying the course, but being conscious and honest about it is crucial. I've been hovering in the same weight range for a couple months now as well and am at the stage where even a single pound lost is worth celebrating. I struggle with getting enough Protein (especially in the morning), avoiding carbs, and moving my body, which are old habits that got me to nearly 300 pounds. Sound familiar? I have a surgery on my right foot two days before Thanksgiving, so I'll be non-weight bearing for a couple months... and unable to drive. I'll be spending my winter/holidays healing and a big part will be to eat healthfully. Let's do this together! Let me know what you're doing toward your health and wellbeing. Won't it be great to spend next Spring and Summer feeling strong and amazing? Let's do this!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
